Dusshera festival of India...

Dussehra of Almora is the most perfect example of how a festival turns into a grand festival.A festival that started from the palace of the king and gradually reached the doorsteps of the public.People adopted it in such a way that now the whole city is its organizer. Almora, situated on the mountains of Uttarakhand, is perhaps the only place where Rama is many, but Ravana is the one who burns on Vijayadashami. And Ravana is also not alone, the whole demon clan lives with him.Almora's Dussehra is different in that it's prepares by the whole city together. Everyone's opinion is taken and everyone's hand in organizing used. Every locality and market brings its own effigy. Ravan is made in some area, Meghnad in some region.Somewhere the effigy of Marich takes shape, then Tadka is made at some place. In this way, the whole city becomes an artist for some timeAnd in the rest of the place where Ravana is alone or only with Kumbhakarna and Meghnad, here the army including Ahiravana, Shumbha, Nishumbha, Marich, Lavanasura, Mayantak, Akshayakumar, Devantak, Khar-Dushan are prepared. Like a human link made by hand and hand, the effigies grew one by one and the whole city connected to them. The story of this festival, which has become the identity and tradition of Almora, begins about three hundred and fifty years ago.History shows that Dussehra was organized by Chand ruler Udyot Chand in his palace in 1697. Then there would be colorful programs. For the next one and a half hundred years, this event was more royal. It is believed that public participation started from 1860.This is the year when Ramlila was staged for the first time in Almora. In the next few years, Ramlila started happening in Nainital, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh. The first Ramlila in Almora took place at the Badreshwar temple. Then this was the only place where this kind of staging would take place. Artists would act on the basis of hand-written manuscripts. When the use of printing technology increased, the plays started getting printed. Many people added new themes to it. In course of time, it also adopted dialogue apart from the Ramcharit Manas. With the gradual changes and reforms, a different style developed here, in which there is no sign behind the When Badreshwar was the only stage for Ramlila, then Dussehra was also considered here only. There would have been only one mannequin, which would have been rotated throughout the city. The tableau of the characters of Ramayana originates from Ramdola.

Finally, the effigy was burnt at Badreshwar. The celebration became public after leaving the palace of the king, but it was still the responsibility of the organizers. Public participation was as an audience. It changed in 1976 and it cannot be beautiful that a Muslim was going to do this. The city's resident Akhtar Bharti himself created an effigy of Meghnad. For the first time Ravana did not roam the streets alone. He also had a son together. The next year Kumbhakarna came, then Tadka and within six-seven years this number crossed the dozen. It grew over time, but the festival of Dussehra remained the same.

It is decided by meeting how to make the festival look. It is decided in which locality which mannequin will be made.Local people do all the work. No outside artists nor any government help. The number of mannequins is increasing year by year as well as the share of people.
