Date Balls

I had the wonderful opportunity to visit with @angelfire808 yesterday.  We had a fantastic time chatting an sharing.  We spent many hours in our own little world out here just being women and working through all of the things that women work through while chatting.  It was energizing to talk at these levels and just share.  I did have a whole day planned of activity but this was even better than all the work that was planned.  This was connection at a deep level and more important than the work.

While @angelfire808 was here we made homemade mozzarella cheese and of course we had to taste it.  What a treat.  While she was over I wanted to make something else, so we talked about making something with dates.  We both have an alternative truffle recipe with dates but I couldn't find mine.  So we began throwing a few things together and this is what we came up with.

Date Balls

1/2 cup dates

3 tbsp water

1 tbsp chia seeds

2 tsp coco (optional)

1 tbsp coconut oil

1/3 cup shredded coconut

Warm dates and water just to get them to soften.  Use a fork to mash them up. This will make a thick paste. Take off burner and add chia seeds, coco and coconut oil and mix.  Allow this mixture to cool for about 10 min.  Just to allow the chia seeds to expand and the mixture to cool a bit so it is easier to handle. Roll mixture into balls and th en roll in shredded coconut. Put in freezer and allow to cool for about 1/2 hour. Enjoy

We ate most of the balls yesterday, so this morning while writing this post I actually made them again. I also adjusted the recipe a bit because we threw the ingredients together and didn't initially write down what we did.

These date balls are similar to the truffles recipe that we have but I incorporate another recipe into the date balls because I really like the energy that it gives.  I learned about this recipe a few years ago and use it when I need more energy in the day. However I can't remember the name of it.  It is just an ingredient list that is stored in my head.

1 tbsp coconut oil

1tbsp chia seeds

1 tbsp honey

This is a fantastic energy booster. However I have a hard time with the sweet of 1 tbsp of honey.  Also I find it has no flavor.  So I decided to take parts of this and add it to the date balls.

Date balls are fantastic. They serve them all over Australia in cafes - all different flavours! yesterday I had a blueberry and lemon one - same principle, but with dried blueberries in it, and rolled in purple dust which I'm pretty sure was blueberry powder, and very very thin slivers of dried lemon! Just gorgeous. Oh, and @mrprofessor - these were what I was talking about!

Hello, I am glad you enjoy date balls. Is this what they are called in Australia? I was not sure what to call them but if they have a proper name that would be lovely.

I never thought to add different flavours. What a brilliant idea. Thank you so much for sharing and stopping by.

you are going to LOVE THIS NAME @carey-page ... but i want to create suspense.... cue music...

lol. I wait in anticipation... I am sitting on the edge of my chair in suspence.

BLISS BALLS! THEIR NAME IS BLISS BALLS!!!

Was it worth the wait @carey-page ?? Xxx

Oh my good ness that is so funny. That has made my day. Yes it was worth the wait. It has made my day. I would not have though that would be the name.

Good huh???

Yuuuuuum! Do they melt? Seems like a great idea for a bike ride, to carry some of these.

They can. But if you put chia seeds in they are more solid. Less water and oil.

Gotcha! Once I have some spare time I'll give it a try. It seems like a great way to add natural fat into a fast snack, plus all the benefits of chia.

I'll also write about a brazilian candy that is made in small balls like that. Just like the date balls they are everywhere, from kids parties to coffee shops.
When I make them for foreign friends they think it's too sweet, but duuuuude, it's so heavenly.

That looks yummy. Ladies keeps exploring when it comes to cooking and leads to new recipes.

Great one, thanks for sharing my friend :)

They are yummy and very filling. Yes us ladies do keep exploring and now there is so much selection. I guess that is why the supermarkets are getting bigger and bigger. Also to accommodate all the different diets and lifestyles.

Have a great day.

Definitely yummy. Good to explore and prepare something new to make it exciting, why only chefs needs to do that? right ? ;)

Happy to see your food items and discuss about those @carey-page, good day.

Thanks so much. Hope your day is going well too.

Oh God @ carey-page you're going to think less of me... but I can't resist. When I saw the title to your post I had another picture pop into my head. Maybe it's the spring weather. But I do love date balls.

HAHAHA I"m not the only one then. Same way I feel about chicken balls.

Good to see you @riverflows. Blessings.

Haha that is funny. Sure don't think less of you. You have brought a smile to my face. Thanks so much.

Yeah, maybe the idea was prompted by a brief conversation I had with my girlfriend this morning. I've been consuming a great deal of coconut oil lately, especially a refined portion that is good for brain function. Girlfriend, "You've been taking so much of that lately your head will turn into a coconut." Me (I'm bald): yeah, it will be all bristly and hairy. But I guess that's better than coco nuts. (as I glanced down).

This is fantastic. I can't stop laughing. I am picturing the whole thing in my head.

Good for you for taking in so much coconut oil. It is so good for you. Good to hear from you again. Have an awesome day. :)

Hmn, Hmn..."...picturing it in my head." Made me chuckle. OK... moving on.

I'll have to try this, simple ingredients, awesome!

I hope you enjoy them. Let me know what you think.

Not too shabby for my first try, so simple I'll be making them again! Thanks!

They look good. It really is simple and they are filling.

I just made these up following your recipe! They are so tasty! They didn't last long with the family! Even the picker eater, my granddaughter ate three! Now she'll be too full to eat lunch! LOL

That is wonderful. They are good. The chia seeds and coconut oil really help fill you up. Glad you liked them. :)

Love date balls. My kids live off them ;-)

That is fantastic. Have you made them before? I imagine that with the base of the recipe you could add anything into them like nuts. They are a great snack and healthy for you.

Thanks for stopping in.
