Perhaps some Bitcoin fans are still wondering why the world still needs an alternative digital currency other than Bitcoin. and most altcoins want to imitate Bitcoin's success with little modification.

However there are hidden values behind most of these projects. And beyond the reason that altcoin helps the development of Bitcoin over time, then here are a number of reasons why altcoin is still needed as quoted from The Merkle.

• Altcoin Feature Test
  And regardless of how people judge it, altcoin provides potential test features that appeal to the development of Bitcoin in the future. So even though Bitcoin has its own feature test, some parties have a "controversial decision" that is better to give a test for a certain altcoin first. then now, Litecoin experimented with Segregated Witness. Depending on the results, SegWit can increase support for Bitcoin itself.

• Introducing New Features for Bitcoin is more perfect
  When there is a lot of aggressive development in Bitcoin world, then new features are always welcome. And it's no use relying on the same group of developers to bring in new features all the time. So altcoin developers sometimes come up with new perspectives that are later introduced in Bitcoin's source code. However, we need to know that not all the features found in altcoin are eventually used to strengthen the Bitcoin source code.

• Present a better Competition
  And although some people may feel Bitcoin is fine like the current conditions, but not necessarily happen in the future. Because the book knows all that Bitcoin, like other financial assets, needs competition to excite the market. Altcoin presents a rivalry in this regard, though there is yet to be an alternative cryptocurrency that poses a real threat to Bitcoin. Without altcoin, Bitcoin will look very different from what we know today.

• Always create diversified cryptocurrency
  And the merchants are happy to agree with the principle of "do not put all the eggs in the same basket". Then the same principle applies to the trade of cryptocurrency. While Bitcoin has the greatest appeal to traders, diversifying one's investment can be easily done with altcoin. When altcoin rests on Bitcoin to generate market appeal, it creates new investment opportunities for traders.

• It is impossible to kill the digital currency
  While regulation is a positive thing for Bitcoin as a whole, and some people think it should also apply to altcoin. So Altcoin becomes an "annoying thing" for financial authorities. With so much cryptocurrency, regulators are increasingly unable to "kill" digital currencies even though they try many times. but this factor is not very positive for altcoin, but still gives a little profit.
