The Tenant of Blousfalopan House

Mr. Bation is an energetic and lovable orphan raised by a brutal and snotty father. Eventually he gets a job working as a shopkeeper for the thoughtful Lady Blousfalopan of Blousfalopan House. The unlikely couple rapidly succumb to a hot passion.

On the day of their wedding, a malicious nurse escapes from the attic of Blousfalopan House and starts a fire. Believing that Lady Blousfalopan is dead, Mr. flees from the church and wanders the chilly moors for days until he is rescued by a special actor.

However, although Lady Blousfalopan is blinded by the fire, she still breathes. Without Mr. she becomes controlling and cowardly. She turns to alcohol for comfort. The ghost of the nurse from the attic haunts her.

Meanwhile, thinking Lady Blousfalopan is dead, Mr. accepts a marriage proposal from his saviour, the actor. However, one night he believes he can hear Lady Blousfalopan calling, "Mr., where are you? Mr. come home!" and he returns to Blousfalopan House.

On Mr.'s return, he finds Lady Blousfalopan drunk and without sight. Mistaking him for the ghost of the malicious nurse, she attacks him with a charger and Mr. Bation dies.

As she attends to the body, Lady Blousfalopan realises what she has done. Driven mad with guilt, she hatches a plan to destroy the next generation, but there is no next generation and she dies of consumption two weeks later.
