Myths and legends. Part 8. Lich

In fantasy, lich is a type of undead creature. Often it is a result of a transformation, when powerful magician or king striving for eternal life uses spells or rituals to bind his intellect to his phylactery and thereby achieve a form of immortality. Liches are depicted as being clearly cadaverous, bodies desiccated or completely skeletal.
Usually they are holding power over hordes of lesser undead creatures, using them as soldiers and servants. Also they can cast dangerous spells. Unlike zombies, which are often depicted as mindless creatures under control of necromancer, lich retains like independent mind and is usually at least as intelligent as it was prior to its transformation.
If you want to kill the lich, you should destroy the phylactery or item wherein he keeps his soul.
