A leftist extremist stabbed Brazil's right-wing presidential candidate Jair Bolsonaro.
Jair Bolsonaro, a conservative candidate for president and the frontrunner in Brazil’s October elections, was stabbed Thursday afternoon during a campaign stop. The incident was caught on video.
Bolsonaro, a senator known for his anti-corruption, pro-family values campaign platform, was attending a campaign rally in Minas Gerais, southeastern Brazil, carried by a crowd of supporters when he suffered the assassination attempt, according to Brazilian newspaper O Globo. The newspaper notes that security guards escorted him out of the crowd to receive medical attention and that Bolsonaro was wearing a bulletproof vest at the time.
O Globo cites a source in the campaign who described the stab wound as “superficial” and expressed optimism about Bolsonaro’s ability to recover and continue campaigning. His son Flavio Bolsonaro, currently running for a senate seat, posted on Twitter that his father, also confirmed that the attacker failed to significantly hurt his father. “Thank God, it was merely superficial and he is doing well. I hope prayers for us will intensify!”
A suspect identified as 40-year-old Adélio Bispo de Oliveira was arrested on the scene, police confirmed. Bolsonaro is expected to leave the hospital on Friday.

The presidential candidate of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, who is first in the polls, has been attacked by a follower of the extreme left.
Since Bolsonaro announced his candidacy for the presidency of Brazil has been cataloged as a right-wing extremist, as xenophobic, misogynist, and racist. All the press has done everything possible to give an image that distorts this politician.
Bolsonaro is a Federal Deputy representing Rio de Janeiro since 1991, he is 63 years old and his life is linked to military forces from a very young age. During his almost three decades as a deputy he never had much political prominence until the last years. Its recent appearance with force has an origin in Lava Jato. The largest operation against corruption in Brazil destroyed the political system, the most traditional candidates were stained by countless causes and other characters took the opportunity to be heard and go on the front page.
Bolsonaro is considered by many as the Donald Trump of Brazil, since he usually says controversial things and that are interpreted directly as racism. However, Bolsonaro has the support of the majority of the middle class in Brazil.
During an interview, he exclaimed that a woman legislator from the Workers' Party was so ugly that she did not even deserve to be raped. In addition to opposing political correctness by saying that homosexuals believe they are demigods, they want jokes about fags to become a crime. For these and other reasons, many consider it the Brazilian version of Donald Trump.
In another act, which took place this Wednesday in Brasilia, Bolsonaro was given an inflatable doll with a drawing of Lula da Silva in prison. The candidate did not hesitate for a second: he took it with his arms, looked at it fixedly and kicked it.
Bolsonaro proposes the reduction of the legal age of majority at age 16, guarantee of self-defense, is in favor of carrying a weapon and the death penalty. Bolsonaro has also described the dictatorship in Brazil in the last century as an excellent period, with human rights and security.
The shadow of communism is a recurrent ghost for Bolsonaro that leads him to talk about the times of the military regime, "The military prevented the communists from colonizing us, we won the war, until 1985 (when democracy was restored), after they infiltrated saying that we were coup leaders."
Bolsonaro believes that the State should intervene as little as possible in society, so it is also against the quotas for blacks in public centers, for example, and denies that they are victims of discrimination, "I have not seen anyone say that is going to hit another for being a black," he says.
Bolsonaro has become the last hope for many Brazilians, since it would prevent Brazil from following in the footsteps of Venezuela and Argentina, for that reason, this attack that it has received, is seen as a desperate maneuver by extremist groups of the left, fortunately they have failed, and Bolsonaro will most likely rise in the polls.
