Luego de tanta insistencia de cierta persona al fin tengo el valor de mostrarme ante ustedes.

Mi nombre es Mario Quintero, tengo 21 años y soy de Caracas, Venezuela.

After months of someone's persistence, I'm finally here and I'm not afraid to introduce myself!

My name is Mario Quintero, i'm 21 years old and I'm from Caracas, Venezuela.

Generalmente, soy la persona del grupo que siempre tiene un comentario chistoso que hacer o un chistecito que lanzar. Me gusta ver a la gente que me rodea reaccionar con una risa. A pesar de que inicialmente pueda o no estar sintiéndome mal, lograr subir el ánimo a los demás así sea brevemente me hace bastante feliz.

I'm often the kind of person that's always joking, making puns or random references. I do that because I love watching those around me with a smile on their faces. Even though I could be a little down in the dumps, making anyone happier makes me happier.

Debería explicar cuáles son mis intereses, aparte de ser orgullosamente el payaso del grupo, pero es difícil ya que siempre he considerado que mis gustos son bastante diversos —y a veces, dispersos—.

Por ejemplo, de niño soñaba con ser escritor o cineasta, de adolescente estaba decidido a hacer cine o a estudiar biología, pero algo pasó en el camino que me hizo terminar estudiando ingeniería de computación.

También hubo ciertos períodos de mi vida en los que pensé en dedicarme al periodismo, a la fotografía o a los idiomas modernos, sin embargo, ya no vivimos en la época del Renacimiento donde los hombres eran artistas, científicos, arquitectos, filósofos e inventores a la vez.

I should explain what are my interests (apart from being a clown), but I find it tough as my hobbies are quite different.

For example, when I was a kid I dreamed about being a filmmaker or a writer, then, as a teenager I was sure I wanted to make movies or be a biologist, but, well, something happened in the road and now i'm a Computer Science major.

And throughout my entire life I've thought of working as many things, however, we're not Renaissance men anymore and be painters, architects, biologists and physicians all at once while painting the Sistine Chapel.

I'm almost sure that's not the right way to handle a camera, but, hey, I tried.

En particular, el cine me ha apasionado desde pequeño. Entre los 10 y los 12 años, recuerdo que tenía un blog donde hacía reviews bastante inocentes de las películas infantiles que veía, basado en lo que hacían muchos críticos reconocidos —y mayores de edad— en otras páginas web... pero hasta ahora eso no ha cambiado mucho, dejo que este arte evoque mis emociones y analizo estas obras, sólo que ahora no tengo un lugar en particular dónde publicarlo.

In particular, cinema has moved since I was a child. When I was between 10 and 12, I remember having a blog where I used to review (too naïvely) those childish movies I watched, based upon those film critics on other websites... but, I got to say, that hasn't changed much. I continue to let this art move me, and I still analyze those films of any genre that I love but by now, I haven't find the right place to share it.

Otra cosa que amo es aprender nuevos idiomas. Debido a la constante exposición a la música, los videojuegos y la televisión en inglés, mi curiosidad lingüística surgió desde muy pequeño. Pero aprender inglés formalmente en mi adolescencia fue nada más el primer paso: al entrar a la universidad empecé a estudiar francés y cuatro años después (es decir, hace tres meses) comencé a estudiar chino mandarín. Pienso que al aprender un nuevo idioma, abres más tu mente a la manera de pensar de sociedades muy distintas a la de uno.

Another thing I love a lot is learning new languages. Thanks to that big exposure to english-speaking music, videogames and TV, my language curiosity began early. But learning english was just the first step: as soon as I started my major, I started to learn french, and four years later (three months ago) I started learning chinese. I think that learning a new language, you are able to broaden your mind to other societies' way of thinking.

Hasta ahora pensarán que no pero debo aclarar que estoy bastante contento con la carrera que elegí. De hecho me encantaría poder especializarme en cualquier campo de la computación que ayude a crear historias y hacer arte: computación gráfica, inteligencia artificial, etc.

You may be thinking by now that I'm not fond of what I choose as my career but that's wrong. In fact, I'm quite happy with it. I would love to focus on any Computer Science area that could help me creating stories and making art, such as computer graphics, artificial intelligencia, etc.

¿Por qué decido unirme a Steemit? // Why Steemit?

Primero, esa insistencia de alguien que mencioné al inicio de este #introduceyourself (no es contigo, @dagt12, qué va) desde hace como seis meses. No pregunten por qué tardé tanto, sólo les digo que realmente me cuesta mucho empezar a hablar de mí coherentemente.

También, porque aunque no lo haya mencionado entre mis pasatiempos, me encanta Twitter. Desde 2010 lo he estado usando para lanzar comentarios al aire, desahogarme e incluso conocer gente, sin embargo, hay muchas ideas que no caben en 280 caracteres y necesito compartirlas: sean recomendaciones musicales, de cine, escritos aleatorios, chistes, anécdotas, ¡cualquier cosa!

Espero que no se hayan cansado con mi presentación/divagación (a la próxima, utilizo Powerpoint para hacer más amena la cosa). Y sinceramente, espero encontrar en esta red social un lugar agradable donde pueda compartir mis ideas.

First of all, that persistence I talked about earlier (cough, cough, @dagt12) that has lasted about six months. Don't ask what took me so long, just know that I'm too hard on myself when it comes to introducing me to new people.

Besides, I haven't mentioned it yet, but I got to confess that I love Twitter. Since 2010, I've been using it for expressing myself, complain and even meeting new friends, but, some ideas can't be written with less than 280 characters. I need to share those ideas: musical recommendations, excerpts of things that I write, film listings, memes, anything!

I hope you're not tired of reading this long #introduceyourself (next time I'll be using Microsoft Powerpoint in order to make it more enjoyable). And I sincerely hope, that here in Steemit I will find a nice place to share my thoughts.
