The Kindness of People... Part 1 (An original story)
Have you ever lost something you thought you'd never get back? Something that seemed like it was impossible to ever be returned to you? Well, what if I told you that sometimes you can even get a piece of your life back that you thought was lost forever? Not only do I know that this is possible... but I experienced it first hand, well second hand actually. You see... this story is about my father...
He grew up in a small town in the Midwest where everyone knew everyone. He was an all American boy... good at sports, and loved hunting and fishing. Plus, according to my mom, he was pretty handsome as well. Him and my mother were high school sweethearts, they were together all through high school and even after high school they were together throughout college until they finally tied the knot a couple years post college.
That is where this story begins...
When my father graduated college he decided he wanted to get away from the Midwest, go and see something new. So, after graduation he decided he would move out to sunny Arizona and stay with his older brother. He packed up everything he owned and put it in a uhaul. He was moving from the only placed he'd ever known with all of his belongings and heading out west to a place that was completely unfamiliar to him.
He would not make it very far, however, in fact he barely made it over 100 miles from home when his car broke down. Not only did it just break down, but it broke down on a hill... so in order to get the car fixed, he had to detach the uhaul to get the car into town to be worked on. After several long hours, he succeeded in getting his car fixed but when he returned to where he left the uhaul, it was gone... along with everything he had every owned in his life. Just like that all his possessions and childhood memories vanished.
The authorities would find the uhual a couple hours later burning on the side of the road. Everything that had been in it was either missing or burned beyond recognition. Apparently, whoever had stolen it decided that they would burn whatever they didn't want to keep... Nice guys huh?!
So here my father is, fresh out of college in a new place, with only the clothes on his back and a car that barely works...
Part 2 tomorrow...
