A Filipino Christmas
A Filipino Christmas means family reunions, “Simbang Gabi” (mass held from December 16-24 at around 3am to 5pm), parties, lots of food, shopping, christmas themed displays, “Parol” (a star-shaped christmas lantern) and of course the immortal christmas songs of our local famous singer Jose Mari Chan.
On start of the “Ber” months which is September first, christmas carols can already be heard from the radio or TV. Filipinos are beginning to plan for the upcoming holidays and some homes are starting to put up their Christmas Trees and decorations. As they say, the Filipinos has the longest Christmas Celebration.
Kids and even adults will then be singing their carols on houses. “Ninongs and Ninangs” (godfathers and godmothers) are starting to buy their gifts for their “ina-anak”.
Employees are already looking forward for their bonuses and parties with their co workers.
And on the Christmas Eve, the most sought-after “Lechon” will be the star of the table along with the Ham, spaghetti, macaroni salad, “kakanin”, “Queso de Bola” and much more food that we Filipinos love. And of course along with the Fireworks and “videoke”!
There is always that joyous feeling on the thought of Christmas. That beyond the parties and gifts, it also gives us the feeling of being blessed because we have our families, friends and because we have Jesus that was born for us to save us and as a reminder that we are Always Loved.
And there is nothing like the “The Filipino Christmas”!!
