73-year-old Robert Bigelow, CEO of Bigelow Aerospace which has been working with NASA to build expandable space habitats for the International Space Station, says there is alien life on Earth.

The billionaire aerospace entrepreneur told "60 Minutes" reporter Lara Logan that not only was he “absolutely convinced” that there are aliens on Earth but that he and his family members have had personal experiences with beings from another planet.

Though the eye-opening interview was focused on how NASA and the Las Vegas-based Bigelow Aerospace are in a partnership to develop Bigelow Expandable Activity Module (BEAM) – an expandable habitat technology that provides a varying degree of protection from solar and cosmic radiation, space debris, atomic oxygen, ultraviolet radiation, and other elements of the space environment.

But the conversation soon shifted to Bigelow's reported obsession with aliens, as the aerospace mogul described a UFO encounter his grandparents had on an undisclosed date while driving on a canyon road outside Las Vegas:

"It really sped up and came right into their face and filled up the entire windshield of the car. And it took off at a right angle and shot off into the distance."

He also revealed that the U.S. Government knows that aliens are here on Earth and even interact with them, but it is all kept top secret from the public amid fears over the impact it would have on religion and the rule of law.

Asked whether he believed in aliens, Bigelow responded:

"I'm absolutely convinced. That’s all there is to it. There has been and is an existing presence, an ET presence. And I spent millions and millions and millions ― I probably spent more as an individual than anybody else in the United States has ever spent on this subject."

When Logan asked Bigelow whether he felt it was risky for him to say in public that he believes in UFOs and aliens, and whether he was worried that people might think he was 'crazy', Bigelow replied:

"I don’t give a damn. I don’t care. It’s not gonna make a difference. It’s not gonna change reality of what I know."

When asked if he thought future space missions would result in any encounters between humans and aliens, Bigelow said:

"You don’t have to go anywhere. It’s just like right under people’s noses."

To be clear, Bigelow’s claims are not to be taken lightly. His sensational admission comes as a surprise considering his company has works closely with NASA, which denies any evidence of aliens. The official U.S. position on aliens is that they haven't been found, but that doesn't mean they don't exist.

Phil Larson, senior advisor, space and innovation at th White House Office of Science and Technology Policy from 2009 to 2014, stated six year ago:

"The U.S. government has no evidence that any life exists outside our planet, or that an extraterrestrial presence has contacted or engaged any member of the human race. That doesn't mean the subject of life outside our planet isn't being discussed or explored."
