Drinking and tolerance.

I'm watching one of the newer episodes of The Simpsons. Homer just made a comment about whether he could drink himself to death, and Moe replied, "You can't. Your tolerance is too high."

I know that neither of these characters are supposed to be particularly intelligent; but, the delivery of that took me aback.

When I was drinking myself into the hospital, it was precisely because of my tolerance. When you can drink an entire bottle of vodka in a day and still speak normally, that's when it is dangerous. You're still poisoning yourself, and doing a ton of damage to your body, you've just lost the ability to feel it while you're doing it.
