Besides of the Czechs, I’ve already listed the Brits and a Californian. We’ll get to Australia today, though Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds wander around the world and lived in various places such were West Berlin, England or Brazil. And deep in their minds since the entire band, with a possible exception of Mick Harvey, was stuck deep in drugs that time.

Kromě Čechů už jsem na svůj seznam zařadil Brity a Kaliforňana. Dneska zabrousíme do Austrálie, přestože se Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds toulají světem a žili leckde, třeba v Západním Berlíně, Anglii nebo Brazílii. A taky hluboko ve vlastních hlavách, protože celá kapela snad s výjimkou Micka Harveyho v tomhle období fetovala ostošest.
I wasn’t really sure which album by Nick Cave should I pick; I love almost all of them. In fact, I love even The Birthday Party and Grinderman albums. Well, Tender Prey won tightly though it was released several years before Warren Ellis, whose arranges I admire, joined the band.
The album begins with a breath-taking ballad sung by a condemned prisoner Mercy Seat, which simply lures your attention:
Nebyl jsem si úplně jist, které konkrétní album Nicka Cavea vyberu, mám je rád skoro všechny. Vlastně mám rád in alba The Birthday Party a Grindermana. Nakonec Tender Prey těsně zvítězilo, přestože bylo vydáno několik let předtím, než do kapely přišel Warren Ellis, jehož aranže obdivuju.
Album začíná dechberoucí baladou odsouzence před popravou nazvanou Mercy Seat, která zkrátka přitáhne pozornost:
Several great songs I particularly adore follow– Up Jumped the Devil, that reminds of a great book by Nick Cave called And the Ass Saw the Angel; the true weeping song Mercy; a remake of traditional gospel City of Refuge, deeper and darker than the original piece; or a specific Oh Happy Day interpretation called Deanna.
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds have sown the wind, so the listeners shall reap the true whirlwind of feelings and emotions encrypted in enigmatic, though storytelling lyrics and devilish arranges. Paraphrasing a verse by Hosea is not inappropriate at all, the world Nick Cave builds to have a place where his visions and stories may come true is fulfilled by biblical motives. It is even said that the band’s name is taken from a psalm, alas, I haven’t found from which one. If you have at least a brief knowledge about both the Old and the New Testaments, your experience would be even stronger. If not, just enjoy the imagination and the music:
Následuje několik dalších písní, které zbožňuju – Up Jumped the Devil, která připomíná skvělou Caveovu knihu A uzřela oslice anděla; opravdová „weeping song“ Mercy; předělávka tradičního gospelu City of Refuge, která je mnohem hlubší a temnější než originál; nebo zvláštní interpretace písně Oh Happy Day nazvaná Deanna.
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds zaseli vítr a jejich posluchači budou sklízet opravdovou bouři pocitů a emocí, skrytých v záhadných a přesto vypravěčských textech a ďábelských aranžích. Parafráze Ozeášůva verše v předchozí větě není vůbec nepatřičná, svět, který Nick Cave staví, aby měl místo, kde se mohou jeho vize a příběhy naplnit, přímo přetéká biblickými motivy. Dokonce se říká, že nzev kapely pochází z jednoho žalmu, bohužel jsem však nedohledal, ze kterého. Máte-li alespoň povrchní povědomí o Starém i Novém Zákoně, váš zážitek bude ještě silnější.
