Albert Einstein was not just a theoretical physicist who made great contributions in the field, he was a loving father  of three and he was also an avid fan of hiking, cycling and playing his violin.

Birth

Albert was born in Ulm, a city in the south German state of Baden-Württemberg on March 14, 1879. His father, Hermann Einstein and his mother, Pauline Koch, a Jewish couple. When Albert was just 6 weeks old his family moved to Munich.

Childhood

While in Munich, Albert began his schooling at the Luitpold Gymnasium ( now known as the Albert Einstein Gymnasium). When starting out Einstein has some speech issues and could not fully speak until the age of five. He was considered to be a poor student at first,  but as time went on and his fascination with Science and Nature grew, so did his intellectual capabilities. When Albert was 12 he stunned his parents by producing an original proof for the Pythagoras theorem.

Teenage Years

His fathers company lost a crucial contract to supply the city of Munich with electrical lighting as they did not have enough money to convert their equipment from Direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC). Due to this his father had to sell their factory. Searching for a new business his family moved to Milan, Italy and then to Pavia, Italy. As his family were moving Albert stayed in Munich to finish his studies. His father had wanted him to study Electrical Engineering but he did not like the state of the education system so he stopped his education. At the age of 16 he travelled to Pavia where his family were living using a doctors note to let the school allow him to leave.

Life as a young adult

When he was in Italy he wrote a short essay called " on the investigation of the state of the Ether in a magnetic field".  In 1895 he took the entrance exam for the Swiss Federal Polytechnic in Zurich.  He failed to achieve the required standard but he had exceptional grades in maths and physics. The principal of the polytechnic had advised him to go to the Argovian cantonal school in Aarau, Switzerland , which he did. In 1896 with his fathers approval he had his citizenship renounced so that he would not have to do military service. At age 17 he enrolled in a four year mathematics and physics diploma program at the Zuric polytechnic.

Marriage and children

Albert Einstein and Mileva Maric married in January of 1903. In may 1904 their first son Hans Albert Einstein was born in Bern, Switzerland. Their second son, Eduard Einstein was born in Zurich in July 1910. They had a divorce in 1919 after having lived apart for 19 Years. Einstein married his first cousin, Elsa Lowenthal in 1919. In 1933 they Emigrated, 2 years later Elsa Einsten was diagnosed with heart problems and died in December 1936.

Death

Albert Einstein died on the 18th of April 1955, due to an Abdominal aortic aneurysm in Princeton, United States.
