Planespotting around Airbus Industries in Hamburg, Germany

in #aircraft7 years ago (edited)

Northwest Germany's city of Hamburg is the original home of MBB (Messerschmidt, Boelkow & Blohm) who have been merged with DASA and later Airbus Industries. Their plant on the banks of the Elbe river is home to large parts of Airbus aircraft manufacturing which -- reasonably or not -- is a somewhat distributed project between different locations in several European countries.

Part of every-day goings on around the plant in Hamburg-Finkenwerder is the touchdown and takeoff of large Beluga transport aircraft. Their slow and relatively silent approach over what used to be quiet residential areas in Hamburg's expensive west-end is something every true aeroplane enthusiast is delighted to watch.

These huge transport aircraft are going in and out roughly 3 to 6 times per day and can best be seen from the Jenischpark gardens and the embankment walk along the Elbe river near the Teufelsbrueck ferryboat access.

Photo tip: wait for late afternoon approaches to avoid backlight situations -- and golden hour shots are the most appealing anyway...

Below is a long-distance shot of a Beluga transport aircraft having taken off from Hamburg-Finkenwerder's Airbus Industry runway.
