Why stop? "Air-clinic" writing contest 12

Many youths today are heavy substance abusers, not by choice, but because they found no way to escape. How do I know this? I used to have a roommate whose boyfriend was a smoker. One night she narrated her ordeal to me. According to her, she's been trying to help him quit but he was finding it difficult doing so. Not that he didn't want to quit but he couldn't. When she finds him with a stick and asks why, he ends up giving the same answer, "I just can't, I tried", with a very sad face.

I believe if more youths knew the severity of the consequences of drug abuse, they would put their backs into quitting...or not go into it in the first place. Drugs like Shisha, tramadol, weed, cigars (containing tar, a carcinogenic or cancer-producing substance, and nicotine) are very popular in Nigeria. Others like alcohol, morphine, heroine, cocaine, opium are also widely used. In most cases, it's as a result of peer pressure, i.e, having friends who smoke. Naive youths are convinced that it is the real deal, they get to feel high and fear no one. If only they knew that drug abuse inhibits good health and vitality, that thousands die every year through drug poisoning, most of these being suicide attempts. As for the sexually active ones, drug abuse reduces the body's sensitivity and better erection. The final blow is a painful death due to heart diseases, lung cancer and chronic bronchits (a.k.a smoker's cough).

How can a person actually STOP?

  1. Stay away from drug abusers
  2. Get rid of all cigars and drugs
  3. Avoid highly seasoned foods which encourage your craving for tobacco.
  4. Exercise a lot
  5. Commit yourself to God asking for Divine help whenever you feel the craving to use drugs. Power from above is always available to those in need.

In conclusion, Drug abuse indeed is a destiny killer as substance abusive youths will not be able to live out the full potential of their lives.

This information is important for most youth of this days . great post dear

Thanks a lot sir @elixbaba

@scarletmedia, you've done a great job by cooking up this to orientate people. Some of these drug abusers do not really know the prescription of the drugs. They take it because they see their friends taking it. Illiteracy also contributes to the high rate of drug abuse nowadays but we will continue to educate them as you've done through our posts. Great job there dear

Wow...thanks a lot @lyricalray. You clearly read and understood the post.

Indeed most youths don't care about checking for the prescription of drugs. They take them because their friends say so. You know celebrities don't help matters too as most of the things they do on social media are picked up by youths who wish to be like them, including substance abuse. There's a lot to be done if drug abuse must end in Nigeria and the world.

Cheers bro!
