Albinos are humans @air-clinic
Good day steemer,
Well, at first I didn’t know what to write about albinos. They seems a little bit complicated, but just this afternoon while I went to get stuffs down the road. I saw this little beautiful fairy princess, she was moving with the wind, so gracefully and beautifully.
She is an albino, so little and sweet. I wanted to take a picture of her and ask for her name, but she won’t even look at me. And off she ran, her skin was so beautiful and for once I wished I had that skin. (Lolss)
So after the encounter it was intriguing so i decided to make a finding about albinos, and here is it...
ALBINOS ARE HUMAN TOO
First what is albinism ( the condition of being albino)?
Albinism in humans is a congenital disorder characterized by the complete or partial absence of pigment in the skin, hair and eyes. – Wikipedia.
Albinism is associated with vision defects, lack of skin pigment making it prone to sunburn and skin cancer. Which is due to absence of tyrosinase , a copper-containing enzyme involved in the production of melanin.
In humans, there are two principal types of albinism:
- Oculocutaneous - affecting the eyes, skin and hair,
- Ocular affecting the eyes only.
In Nigeria, albinos are identified with there skin, hair colour, irregular rapid movement of the eyes.
And there is a saying an albino doesn't need to be introduced in a market i.e they are distinct.
Albinos are human, very normal and should be treated normal.
Surprising, have never for once taught about albinos, I only see them as some rare creatures that shouldn’t take salt and must be taken care of.
But in our society today, humans with albinism often face social and cultural challenges such as ridicule from mates, discrimination from the society, resulting into low self esteem. Most of them are treated differently and showed no love.
A study conducted in Nigeria on albino children stated that they experienced alienation, avoided social interactions and were less emotionally stable. Furthermore, affected individuals were less likely to complete schooling, find employment, and find partners.
Studies showed in African countries such as Tanzania and Burundi, there was an unprecedented rise in witchcraft resulting in killings of people with albinism, because their body parts are used in potions sold by witchdoctors.
You must know, albinism cannot be treated. But the irregular movement of the eye can be curtailed using recommended shades.
Albinos are human and should be treated right.
No to stigmatization of albinos.

I am @rebeccafl
@camzy made this beautiful cartoon.
You are so right with your post. Albinos get treated like outcasts. They get rejected at job interviews , some schools and even some parents reject their children marrying one. We need to sensitize to populace to understand that albinism is just the absence of melanin in their skin. It doesn't make them less human.
Yes, thanks for stopping by.
Albinos are humans..... Its quite funny we Nigerians talk about racism and the evils the whites are doing to us blacks, when we also are doing the same to albinos . I hope for the day we would be better humans and see every colour as the same.
Powerful insights ma'am, God bless you.
Oh, thank you!
Albino are treated in the society as if they are not humans especially when they are within there peer group. They discriminate Albinos too much.
I hope this post of your will change something in the society.
#mycrush @rebeccafl
Yea, it will. ( lolss) crush indeed
Unfortunately, discrimination is an abnormal fraction of life that is very detrimental to our well being. As for me, they are beautiful
Yea, so beautiful
