Did you know that Hypertension is a heart related medical condition characterized by persistent rise of the blood pressure, while risk factors are often traceable to one’s lifestyle and diet, including smoking, too much alcohol and coffee consumption, obesity, chronic stress, high salt intake and hereditary- family history.
Hypertension can be characterized into two: these are….
1.Primary hypertension
2.Secondary hypertension

PRIMARY HYPERTENSION: Primary hypertension has no identified cause, it’s also called essential hypertension, this primary hypertension is not as a result of any disease. Over 90% of people diagnosed of hypertension have primary hypertension and it tend to develop over a long period of time, uncontrolled essential hypertension may lead to a serious complication.
SECONDARY HYPERTENSION: This hypertension on the other hand, is usually caused by other problems unlike primary hypertension that has no cause, it result in higher blood pressure unlike the essential hypertension. Secondary hypertension is caused by diseases of various kinds like Cancer, kidney disease, diabetes, pregnancy, illicit drug use, congenital heart failure, adrenal gland tumor and overweight.

Secondary hypertension can lead to severe health conditions like strokes, aneurysms, heart attack and heart failure. You can however, avoid these dangers by adopting some preventive measure. Drinking alcohol can cause heart damage over a period of time, some people might even drink alcohol and experience a raise in their blood pressure.
Physical activities or exercises might cause hypertension in some people because the faster your heart pumps, the more pressure it requires to circulate the blood. Too much salt can also cause blood pressure to rise.

SOME FACTS ABOUT HYPERTENSION

  1. The normal blood pressure shouldn’t exceed 130 over 80 millimeter mercury (mmHg) according to the recent guidelines issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) in November 2017
  2. Stress may also cause an acute hypertension and should be reduced.
  3. Hypertension crisis occurs when the systolic blood pressure is above 180mmHg
  4. In stage one hypertension, the systolic blood pressure rises between 130 and 139mmHg
  5. In stage two hypertension, the systolic blood pressure rises to at least 140mmHg

SYMPTOMS

Hypertension does not show any symptoms that is why most people call it a silent killer when no symptoms is detected, it can cause damage to the internal organ, So regular check is required since there is no visible symptoms.
In most cases HBP causes sleeping disorder, anxiety and sweating, headache and nosebleed (in the level of hypertension crises).
Hypertension can be treated through a change of lifestyle or medications, and a regular checkup is required, the instrument used is mostly SPHYGMOMANOMETER which is easily affordable.

Good topic @psalmmy. Hypertension has caused alot of damage in our society today, not because people don't know about it but because they don't go for regular checks, which is very dangerous. I think if there is a way the government can help, it will do a lot of good in the society.
