LASSA FEVER
Lassa Fever is an acute viral haemorhagic illness of 2-21 days duration. It is a virus that can be transmitted from human to another via contact with food or items contaminated with rodent urine or faeces.
Lassa is known to be endemic in most West Africa countries like Benin, Ghana, Guinea, Mali and Nigerian. The animal that host, the Lassa virus is a rodent of the genus mastongs, commonly known as the "multimammate rat". This rat which are the carrier of this virus do not get ill, but can share this virus to humans through their urine, faeces.

Background
This virus called "Lassa Fever " the virus causing Lassa disease was not identified until 1969. The virus is a single -stranded RNA virus belonging to virus family called "Arenaviridea".
Lassa Fever is a zoonotic disease, meaning that humans can be infected and likewise transmite it from person to person.
**lassa fever virus infection can only be diagnosed in laboratory using the following test:-
TEST OF LASSA FEVER
√ Reverse transcriptase polymease chain reaction (RT-PCR)
√Antibody enzymes -link immune bent assay (ELISA)
√Antigen detection test
√Virus isolation by cell culture
TREATMENT
The antiviral ribravirin is the best and effective treatment for Lassa Fever if given or diagnos early between the 1-5 days of infection.
CONTROL
1 keep your food stuff in a well covered container
2 Always make sure you keep your environment clean
3 Dispose your waste proper to avoid the attraction of rats.
4 Avoid opening of your waste food
Note:- There is currently no vaccines that protects against Lassa Fever
