Thank you @air-clinic for carefully picking out this topic...
I had sat down for a some days to think hard on this topic and how well to pass my message across to my readers so everyone can gain something..
Truth is the topic is really wide depending on the perspective you look at it from...
Anyways, let's get started...

Introduction
Poverty is the elder cousin of diseases... This statement somehow seems vague but guess what?
It's very true...
In fact, did you know that there's something called "diseases of poverty"?

Diseases of poverty is a term sometimes used to collectively describe diseases/disabilities or health conditions that are more prevalent among the poor.

In many cases poverty is considered the leading risk or determinant factor of such diseases, and in some cases the diseases themselves are identified as barriers to economic development that would end poverty.

These diseases which are partially triggered by poverty are in contrast to "diseases of affluence", which are diseases thought to be a result of increasing wealth in a society but that's just by the way....

Although there are so many ways to look at this topic, I'll love to examine it from five different angles with simple case studies.

  1. Imagine people living in rural areas where they have limited access to water, electricity and the likes... And where they probably have just a source of water, "the village river"..
From this river, they bath, get water to cook, to drink and even wash clothes by the bank of the river...
By the time different people come to bath there, and another set of people swim, then some others come to poo, while others drink the water... Please what do you think will happen to the ones that drink the water? Of course they get diseases as a result of the water contamination but it doesn't end there... Because of the poverty level, they don't even have money to treat the diseases when they fall sick... They just pray or die like chickens and they assume "the gods" are not happy with them... Sad..

  2. Another scenario is illiteracy... Wondering how? Just stay with me...
Now, poverty is what would make someone not able to afford a good education which is tantamount to illiteracy. Illiteracy on the other hand is what would prevent the people from knowing about certain diseases and how to protect themselves example is lassa fever... The people don't even know about hygiene... For them... Anything goes...

  3. Another perspective is the fact that poverty is a mindset... So in the case where you even provide some free amenities for these poor people in rural areas... Because of the mentality of them not being able to afford anything good... They just stay back, and suffer in silence... E. G free immunization for children against diseases such a polio, measles and the likes...
Why? They don't know these amenities have been freely given to them..
Trust me, this is not far fetched at all....

  4. Imagine another case scenario where you are even literate, aware of happenings around and then you fall sick. The doctor gives you a bill of #5,000,000 to be paid in one week but you're a salary earner of #5000/month. Please how will one go about getting such money in such short notice... Hmmmmm
The sickness just continues to deteriorate till it gets out of hands and gives way for opportunistic diseases....

  5. Have you ever wondered why people living with HIV in developed countries live longer? It's money...
Yes, they have good money to eat good food and make themselves comfortable while managing their diseases...

Word count:350 words

I could go on and on but see, no matter how you bend it or look at it... Poverty is the elder cousin of diseases...

My advice? Get multiple streams of income, work hard for even generations to come...

Like the popular saying goes:
"Money answereth all things".....
