Dangers of self medication "Air-clinic"

It's no news that an average person or Nigerian to be precise practices self medication....

Individuals, students in school, colleagues in the office are all guilty of this act...
And especially Nigerian mothers... Lol....
They give prescriptions to their young ones based on previous experiences or know-how.
Well to be honest, it works and this makes us believe so much in our parents prescribing drugs for us but I tell you, it's dangerous because they might not know the exact dosage or exact drug for the particular ailment that you have at that point in time....
So please, be guided...

my experience on self medication
I was in 200Level in the university... I had been hearing of this popular drug that was working wonders.. "TRAMADOL"...

They said guys used it to last longer in bed, delaying ejaculation while ladies used it in times of very serious menstrual cramps....

Well, I'm a lady so I fall into the category of people who would most likely experience menstrual cramps..

This fateful morning, my period started and the pain was mad.. I tell you...
I was crying and rolling on the floor.. I felt like I was going to pass out..
This pain was massive, excruciating I tell you...
My room mates were confused, someone suggested going to the hospital out of confusion but another lady in 500Level advised I used tramadol..

In her words "when you take it, don't worry.. You won't feel any pain again"...

So immediately, someone rushed to get the drug from a pharmacy close by..

Heheeeeee

That was the beginning of my problems...

When I took it; within 5minutes.. The pain disappeared... I felt so at ease... So I slept off like a baby....

When I woke up.... I felt like a piece of paper floating a thin air...
It felt good initially but suddenly............

I lost control..
I started throwing up...
Another kind of weird pain rushed in all over me.....
I became very weak and feeble....
Even worse than i felt with the initial menstrual pain...

Oh my word!!!
It wasn't funny....

The hostel turned upside down...
Students already started insinuating I was either pregnant or I had an abortion.....

Hahaaaa
Afterwards... I blacked out...
And that was it......

By the time I got myself back, I was on admission in the hospital....

Jeeezzzz....
"What am I doing here?"
That was the only question I could ask....

Anyways, to cut the long story short....
Apparently, the drug and in fact the dosage I took was too strong for me....
And according to the doctor I shouldn't have even taken the drug at all....

Consequences of self medication could vary depending on the persons body system.
It could be mild, severe and can even lead to death in the very serious cases.
Other times, it can lead also to drug abuse which is definitely injurious to health in the long run..
So please even if it's just a headache, if you feel the need to use any medication..
Ensure you visit your doctor or speak to a certified pharmacist...
