#Air-clinic writing contest 12: Drug abuse; a youth destiny killer.
An unfortunate tale of every Society, while we suffer current economic and administrative setbacks and inefficiency, the future has been endangered as many children grows into adulthood and turn their backs on the future which they are meant to represent.
Many conditions have contributed to this however, but most threatening is the issue of ‘drug abuse’. Drugs are actually chemical substances carefully produced to get rid of sickness and restore us to normal health. However, many of these drugs when taken in a modified form and in effect-enhancing doses produces several stimulatory effect on the physiological functioning of the body system. ‘Substance abuse ’ is a term that has been introduced to include more substances other than drugs which produces this effect and are used as such.

The idea of this wrong use of drugs have evolved over time and the result has been completely detrimental to the societal development goals worldwide, as every society faces the challenge of curbing this acts by its youths.
The hallucinatory effect of drugs taken without or against a doctor's prescriptions is addictive. Addiction to these drugs marks the onset of one's deviation from normal lifestyle, a drug abuser becomes addicted to these substances due the effect he/she gets from taking them, this leads to lack of interest in many worthwhile activities and a corresponding poor performance should they try taking part in these activities, this includes studying, engaging in skill acquisition programmes and other life-changing activities.
This has rendered many youths who had a very bright start useless and also many adults who already set off on a great start to life have also gone down to their possible depth after their encounter with substance abuse. There is thus a procreation of misfits and an end to a bright future. Many destinies have been squashed by this act and unfortunately the future faces a greater threat, the story have always been ‘a very bright kid who gave into youthful waves and influence of peers'. But these ‘peers’ were once bright people, it then takes the blame off ‘peers’ to everyone in the society and everyone is to act if this situation should have a possible end.
