DRUG ABUSE; A YOUTH DESTINY KILLER: AIR CLINIC SAY NO TO CODEINE ABUSE
Since recent years has been much in parties to young people with a fashion to get drugged, and this is formed with some anti-flu drug, and sleeping pills, which contains codeine or promethazine, prescribed for those who have cough, severe insomnia or muscle pains and this medicine combine it with alcohol. This drug has been worrying Venezuelan doctors because generally to obtain this syrup is not necessary a prescription for pharmacies.
As a consequence of the abuse of codeine we have to produce an overdose that normally triggers dizziness, sedation and vomiting. Codeine affects the central nervous system. Its chronic users are characterized by drowsiness (constant sleep), frequent fatigue and lack of resistance. In young people it generates physical motivation for the fulfillment of daily responsibilities; besides anxieties, fears and mood swings. Because this synthetic substance acts as a central nervous system depressant, its abuse could reduce the nervous system to the point where it stops and causes death.
In December of 2017 there was a big party in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, where they were young people between 15 and 30 years old approximately; at the beginning of the party they prepared a 5-liter container, a combination of several bottles and several syrups, mixed as if it were a tizana, everyone at the party took that drink without knowing what it contained, in that meeting there was a boy who he had many months taking this combination to get high, and this time it did not go so well, something in his system did not tolerate it and caused him to faint and tachycardia, he was immediately taken to the hospital where the doctors assure that if he had not been taken instantly to intensive care the young man would have died.
