What is Cerebral Palsy?
Let's start with "cerebral"; it refers to the brain's cerebrum which is responsible for motor functions. Palsy has to do with paralysis of voluntary movements in certain parts of the body.
From that you can deduce that cerebral palsy (often known as CP) is a disorder of movement, muscle tone or posture that is caused by damage that occurs to the immature, developing brain, most often before birth. Signs and symptoms could appear during infancy or preschool years.
Now that we know what that means let's find out what causes it; shall we?
Cerebral Palsy could be caused by
- Lack of oxygen to the brain before, during or after birth. (Asphyxia)
- Mutation of genes
- Bacteria and viral infection
4)Prenatal exposure to drugs and alcohol
5)Bleeding in the brain (hemorrhage) - Head injuries gotten during birth of first few years of infancy.....
Signs and Symptoms of Cerebral Palsy. If you have a baby around some of the things you should look out for are:
Problems with movement, drooling, stiff muscles, lack of coordination or balance (like inability to crawl, sit or stand), jerky reflexes, problems with swallowing and chewing and others.

Some Conditions could be present along side CP: Vision impairment, epilepsy, chronic pain and discomfort, chronic sleep disorder, speech disorder etc.
Cerebral Palsy are of various types and can occur in different locations in the body. I might talk about that in another post.
Thank You for reading
Educative.
It is similar to autism kind of
Thanks for sharing @annieben
Thanks dear
Really nice, is it the same with autism?
No deary @braide. Autism affects the development of the brain involving problem solving, social interaction etc whereas CP mostly affects the motor functioning
You're doing great dear with your health related posts. Keep steeming
I am learning from you na. Thank you
I am not even understanding anything @annieben
There are some kids who cannot sit or stand or walk on their own. They cannot hold things too and sometimes their speech is impaired. All that is caused by damage to the cerebrum which coordinates these activities
"Cerebral palsy"... Another reason I didn't study med surg
