Today we will be learning about push ups. What are pushups, what muscle groups are used in a pushup, how to perform them properly and benefits of pushups.

So without furthur ado let's begin. Shall we?

What's a push-up?

A push-up is a calesthenics exercise that helps you develop your chest, shoulders and forearms. It looks something like this.

It's good for starters and becomes more interesting and hard as you add more variations to it.

Moving forward....

So now that you have some basic information about what a push-up is. Let's explore the muscle groups involved in this exercise.

What muscle groups are involved in a push-up?

The anterior deltoids and pectoralis major muscles:- These babies work hard in order to ensure smooth movement of the upper arms during the pushing up phase of a push-up.

The Triceps brachii muscles or rather triceps to a ring a bell are also slogging away extending the elbow joints so that your arms can be fully extended. Because if they didn't then you wouldn't be able to raise your hands in the air like you just don't care🕺😂😂😂.

These are the primary muscles involved. But besides them there are a few muscles/muscle groups that help with stability and balance in the body.

Some of them along with brief Information are:-

Biceps:- This is a two-headed muscle and it's function is to provide support for your arm as your triceps activate during or while performing the push-up. The shorter head is the part that works hard during the push-up so that you can enjoy your push-up with proper technique.

Quadriceps:- These babies engage to keep your body straight because if they didn't then you'd be all over the place. Lol. Their job is to support your lifted legs and toes that you anchor to the floor.

Erector Spinia:-These are basically a set of muscles along your spinal cord. They work in partnership along with your rectus abdominus and obliques to keep your back rigid.

Rectus abdominus:- My friend here
is responsibe for your Instagram dp i.e. the 6 pack look.

Obliques:- These bad boys are located at the sides of your waist and it's their job to ensure that side bending and rotation happens properly. They get fired up during the push-up to prevent twisting and other unwanted/unnecessary torso movement from taking place.

So after having explored how these muscles work.

Now is the time to learn how to do a push-up.

How to do a push-up?

To perform a successful push-up you need to start from a plank position and then you lift your body up using the power of all those muscles you just learned about and then slowly bring it down. (See you actually get to implement stuff here instead of just memorising stuff and writing it on a sheet of paper and forgetting it later on. Lol.)

You need to perform this slowly if you want proper form/technique otherwise just follow this persons lead.

If you arean't as strong as me and this isn't possible for you then you may want to try it this way. Lol.

Try to aim for quality more than quantity because that will help you in the long run. But again this is just my opinion and you're always free to take it or leave it i.e. unless someone holds you at gun-point and forces this upon you. But I'm not like that. I promise 👿.

Here's a video to deepen your understanding of this concept :-

Welcome back after watching the video. Time to learn a few benefits of push-ups.

Benefits of push-ups:-

1). It helps improve your posture.
Reason:- The way the exercise is performed helps straighten and strengthen the muscles surrounding your back, chest and shoulders. Thus, helping you improve your posture.

2). It's free to do.
Reason:- Because this is a body-weight Exercise you only need some free space and your body to perform this instead of having to buy equipment before you begin working out.

3). It helps you strengthen your back & shoulder muscles.
Reason:- The movement performed in every rep calls upon the support of surrounding muscles in the shoulder and back region, thus, completing a single rep both increases the stability and strength of the shoulder and back muscles.

I could go on and on for sometime but I think so this much is enough for now.

So with that I'm wrapping up this post on push-ups.
