Zainab was the talk of the entire village. The poor girl couldn't go anywhere due to her present predicament. She was rejected, even by her family because of the oozing odour from her body. She was 12 years old but even her mates rejected her.She had been deprived of the joy of childhood. Her shame began a few months earlier

This was the beginning of her misery. She had just been married off to Alhaji Sanusi. All her mother's plea fell on deaf ears as her father still insisted she got married. There were other mature women who weren't married plus Sanusi already had 4 wives before.., and why he still insisted in marrying her...her immature mind couldn't comprehend.
She knew she was now his legal wife and had to perform the duties of one-including warming his bed. She had dodged him on several occasions but on one fateful night...he took her by force.
She eventually got pregnant. She had complications during childbirth and she lost the child. From this point in her life, she noticed she lost control of her excretory system. People around her thought it was because she wasn't mature.

This leads us to the present day..
Apart from her inability to control her excretory organs, she had pains around her genital areas. She was rejected by her own family, her husband threw her out of the house and the entire community was against her. She had been to different traditional centres and had been treated with different species of herbs, all to no avail. She died 14 days after.

Zainab died from Vesicovaginal fistula (VVF), which was caused from complications during childbirth and could have been treated earlier with the intervention of adequate medical attention.

Like Zainab, many other people especially in rural communities lose their lives due to ignorance. Many believe traditional doctors are more efficient than the medical professionals. many also claim that the traditional herbalists cost alot more less not considering that their lives are at risk and no amount of money can give life. I believe that this contest will educate people on the importance of medical professionals in the society..
