Case 1 Highlight

The Diagnosis for this was Prostate Carcinoma with ? metastasis to vertebrae

Case 2 Highlight

The Diagnosis for this was HyperOsmolar HyperGlycemic state (HHS) in a known Diabetic

FOR THIS WEEK, HERE ARE THE CASES FOR YOU TO ATTEMPT.

Case 1

A 55-year-old woman who has been diabetic for 12 years suddenly noticed she was bleeding under her left foot after stepping on a nail. She did not even feel a pain after the incident so she ignored it because the bleeding had stopped after a few days.

A few weeks later, she noticed that the wound got bigger and deeper but she still didn't feel any pain. She decided to apply some herbs which She did for a few months but the wound got worse and spread to the entire foot.

It had a bad odor and produced a greenish substance, her grandchildren were not happy with the status of the foot so they took her to see a medical doctor for help.

What do you think is this woman's medical problem (diagnosis)?

If you were a doctor, how would you help her solve the problem?

What lessons have you learned from her story?

Case 2

A nine-year-old boy was rushed to the village clinic this evening by his mother because he has been stooling and vomiting since morning at school.

The stooling started in small bits in school as he rushed to the school toilet about 2 times in an hour to poo, but soon became worse, he had up to 4 visits per hour which made his teacher allow him to take the day off from school.

Since he arrived home, he has been passing stool while lying down on the bed. The stool each time was large in quantity, very watery and contained the beans he had eaten early in the morning.

When the mother returned and saw his present state, She rushed him to the clinic because he was too weak to sit up /speak and she noticed his eyes were really sunken.

What do you think is this boys medical problem (diagnosis)?

If you were a doctor, how would you help him recover?

What lessons have you learned from his story?

Attempt the cases as much as you can...

INTERVIEW SEGMENT

For this week’s TETE-A-TETE segment, meet our guest... - @muhammadalikatu

Tell us about yourself

I am Muhammad Ali Katu from Ghana. A student of University for Development Studies, pursuing a medical laboratory science. My Steemit username is @muhammadalikatu. I love reading books especially sci-fi. I believe reading is a key ingredient in personal development, hence my love for steemit.

Why do you love @air-clinic?

Air-clinic is a home for everyone, both health workers, and non-health workers. Posts on air-clinic are easy to understand, it helps me learn a lot of things in a short amount of time. I get to learn about how to care about the body and countless conditions that the body can face.

High and low point on steemit

My low point was being a newbie, didn't really no much about steemit, putting people's names as tags and getting low views and payouts.
My high point was when I decided to be consistent for a week, and the price of sbd was ballooning at that time, that's when you feel your sweat is paying off.

How do you balance your steemit life and real life

If you see steemit as another social media platform, balancing it with real life won't be a problem. Social media has become part of us. A day won't go by when you've not visited it. The problem is don't stay on it for long if your real life is demanding

Motivation to study your career.

My motivation to pursue medical laboratory science is my passion to solve people's problems. I feel good when I've run a test for a patient and that test result is going to be used to treat or see the patient's medical condition. Your work is part of the answers to be given to the patient.

Challenges/survival story in your specialty

Well the only challenge I get in my field of studies, are concepts and terminologies failing to stick in. The challenge is if you let your brain think it's difficult, it's going to be difficult but if you push yourself to learn it over and over again, you'll survive it. People have learned it, so can you

Final words

The health sector is broad and the only way we can become abreast with contemporary issues is by reading and listening. Stressing on the listening, it saves you and the patient a lot of time.

Hi @air-clinic, I'm @checky ! While checking the mentions made in this post I noticed that @dr-antigenx and @dr-omaqiin don't exist on Steem. Maybe you made some typos ?
