#AIR-CLINIC PUBLIC FORUM 2: Doctors are Sweet, Nurses are the Opposite?!

in #air-clinic7 years ago

Hello Air-Clinicians & Friends,

We started off last week with the first health care related discussion centered on how people react due to their preconceived notion that doctors ought to be only males while nurses ought to be only females.

We had quite a number of air-clinicans (both doctors or nurses) drop their comments concerning the topic and their comments made so much sense, as they debunked such notions by enlightening the public by sharing reasons why such an ideology is wrong.

Among those that commented were @josejirafa,@ofon, @kemtayo and @richforever.

This week we will be looking at a very interesting topic and we would love to hear from you all again.

Tell us if you've had experienced going to a hospital and you met with a warm receptive attitude from doctors but received an unfriendly and repulsive attitude from nurses.

If you haven't had any such direct experiences but just want to bare your mind, your inputs are also welcome.

How true is it that doctors generally are very accommodating and ready to listen, helping patients no matter how burdensome their problems may be while nurses are the complete opposite, having an I-dont-care-attitude?

Is there any truth in this or is it just a fallacy? Let's hear you share what you think about this.

not judging or anything, all nurses i have met give me the creeps. They hold needle to the butt like they are holding a knife to stab a patient.

Lolx. You seem to be the type who's scared of injectionsthe way you described this. Its their job my dear. Most of them try to make a patient feel comfy before they inject. However, there's nothing that will make an injection totally painless. Cheers dear!

yes but a smiling nurse will help. And lol, i prefer injections to drugs. Let them just chook it fast fast and go and sleep

Smiling nurses are the worst, your sub conscious mind will start thinking differently that the injection wont be painful. And bam!!!!!, are ears will raise and eyes will be wide open because you werent expecting such pain from such a smiling nurse. That's my view though.

lmao! you remind m of my 26 year old male cousin who's still afraid of needles! Let him get sick again so i can get the whole needle drama on tape and post it here

Lolz, funny you

I’ve not had such experiences from nurses. I’ve always been fairly treated

Thats Okay @richforever. Its good that your experience has been positive. Cheers!

Haven't experienced such but i think the difference in attitude might be due to the organization system used and most importantly the doctors/nurses frame of mind at that moment(moody or happy)

Exactly @davyd,
Personality and situation may be the problem most times. Also some patients have a poor manner of approach which can tick-off an exhausted nurse.

Keep steeming!

Most nurses are rude... That's just it

I remember when my son was 3 months old and was very sick. He was admitted because he needed blood transfusion. The nurses were so rude and I now think they were condemning me for having a child at 17

One particular nurse made me cry by replying a question I asked her with
"na me send you go carry belle ordinary sickness now you want die"

The doctors attending to my boy was very kind tho

haba! why would they say such? very insensitive of them!!

Awwn! Sorry @estherlove1 for such a sad experience. We are not going to try and make an excuse for a rude nurse. We can only tell you to take heart dear!

Well, for me, I've not really met an unfriendly nurse. But generalising 'unfriendly' for all nurses would be a fallacy. If a nurse is unfriendly, then its a function of his or her personality and not the title 'nurse'.

Yeah @prettyabby,
We quite agree with you on this;

This is very true, nurses are annoying. i can still recall years back when my cousin sister lost her 4 months old baby due to their carelessness. Instead of attending to the baby when we arrived at the hospital, they were busy gossiping and that was at mid night when the baby's temperature changed and we have to rush to the hospital. I will never forget that day in a hurry... So very annoying .

Hey @nnanna,
Sorry about that ugly experience. There are still many good nurses out there though. Cheers!

Well left for me I'll say nurses are usually nice, cause definitely I wouldn't allow a nurse with an attitude work in my hospital if I have one. Doctors are generally nice cause they want their patient to feel better even when they ain't feeling too good, it's a normal phenomenon.

Hey @esebonez,
its good to hear your experiences have generally been positive. Cheers!

Firstly, i think having a male nurse sounds pretty awkward. i have never experienced one before, so i wouldn't know if they act nice. For the females nurses, if there is a hospital with about 50 nurses 39 out of them don't act nice. I want to believe it's an attitude exclusively to most nurses in Nigeria although i haven't had to experience any outside the boarders of Nigeria. However we could now say that not all female nurses treat her patients harshly. Generalization doesn't sound like a perfect judgement nonetheless.

For doctors, i think i'd like to get married to one. That's all i can say about them docs winks

Hey @xpressng,
There are good nurses as well as poorly-mannered ones too. Same with doctors. Personality has a huge role to play. Timing too.

Many persons tend to get unapproachable when they are tired or stressed up. Especially considering the health sector in many parts of the world, alot of health workers are frustrated.

#AIR-CLINIC is creating another brand of health workers. A place where both health workers and the patients are happy because they find real fulfillment.

Lolx! We have a lot of good doctors that will oblige you. winks.

Cheers dear!

Lol. I am a male nurse and I do agree that it is a bit awkward. I cant imagine being hospitalized and have a male nurse care for me

But I think it has something to do with being used to the system. The male nurses in the profession are grwoing and we should welcome them with open hearts as long as they continue to performs their tasks as nurses. Anyways. If you have teouble with a male nurse, you could always ask a female nurse to do his care instead. Preferrnce is a big thing in regaining health and if a patient is more comfortable with a female nurse, i dont see any problem with that.

Im Nurse Aaaron in air-clin by the way lol. I thnk there are only 3 of us there who are males. See you around @xpressing!

Lool.this is a funny one.actually doctors seem nicer cause it is a core aspect of our training .we call it ethics ,bed side manners .so in the process of training most of us have imbibed this attitude it becomes like our default. I really cant speak for nurses much but from experience i know there are really nice nurses and pretty nasty ones too.i feel the nasty ones r just mainly frustrated.

Hey @kemtayo,
exactly!
