LOW BLOOD PRESSURE ( HYPOTENSION)

in #air-clinic6 years ago (edited)

Good day friends and welcome to airclinic. It's a beautiful Monday morning out here, how do you do?. Today on men's health, we want to talk about Low Blood Pressure. Low blood pressure? You may wonder that high blood pressure is more common. Are there health risks if the pressure goes low? Read along.

Blood pressure is a measurement of the pressure in the arteries. For many, blood pressure varies depending on activities they have had before the reading was taken, body position, the stress level of the body, what they ate or drank, time of the day and so on. It is common in both male and females.

What seems as low blood pressure may be normal for some but in all humans, when the reading is taken, two figures are recorded. One measuring systolic pressure ( the one on top of the reading), measuring the pressure within your artery and when the heart pumps out blood) and the other measuring diastolic pressure(at the bottom of the reading), measuring pressure in artery when the heart is filling with blood.

If it is in the range 120/80mmHg +-20mmHg, then it is normal. But a sudden drop from 120/80mmHg to 90/60mmHg can be dangerous. The brain may not receive adequate supply of blood anymore. But you may wonder, what really can cause low blood pressure?

CAUSES OF LOW BLOOD PRESSURE
1.PREGNANCY- During pregnancy, the human circulatory system expands. With that, the woman's blood pressure can drop.

2.DEHYDRATION- If you lost water probably through diarrhoea and you do not drink much to replenish the lost water, you become weak, fatigued and dehydrated. A dehydrated person suffers low blood pressure. So drink enough water each day.

3.BLOOD LOSS- Losing blood probably through surgery can make someone stand the risk of low blood pressure because the amount of blood he has is reduced.

4.LACK OF VITAMIN B12- Vitamin B12 and folate helps your body to produce red blood cells. A lack of such vitamins from the body can cause aneamia which in turn causes low blood pressure.

5.MEDICATION- Be careful with medications. Some can lower your blood pressure. For those having high blood pressure, if you are using drugs to lower it, then it is advisable to always check your BP intermittently. If already low to a considerable extent, the drugs should be discontinued.

6.Heart failure, heart attack and bradycardia (low heart rate) can cause low blood pressure.

7.Infection which entered into the blood stream

8.Neural disorder

9.Low blood sugar

10.Diabetes

TREATMENT
Depending on the cause of the blood pressure, treatment can be in form of:

  1. Drinking enough fluids

  2. Reducing or avoiding alcohol

  3. Visiting your Doctor . He will help you adjust your medications if using any to reduce high blood pressure or if your blood pressure is usually too low, he may recommend drugs that raises blood pressure.

  4. Constantly check your blood pressure to know when to discontinue or reduce high blood pressure drugs. With constant checking, you will know when your blood pressure is normal, when it has become too low or when it tends toward high BP.
