Yes, I agree that out of the total population of the US, there are 40% that don't work. I showed a similar chart that went back farther in time that shows more data. Historically, this figure was always higher, more like 50%. So over the long term, employment is higher now. Before the push for women having jobs in the 1970's, unemployment was always near 50%.
