Unfortunately, wherever there is revolutionary innovation(especially those that involve handling large sums of money, bad actors always looks for ways to exploit the system, for example, Cryptocurrencies were invented in 2009 and because of the revolutionary tech behind the invention, Cryptocurrency users lost nearly $2 billion to exploits, rug pulls and hacks in 2023, roughly half the previous year’s amount that stands at $4 billion.
Every major exchange has been hacked because of the kind of money that goes through them on a daily basis, they become prime targets to bad actors, Mt Gox was the first exchange hacked in 2014 where 750,000 Bitcoin was lost which is worth over $30 billion in today’s prices, major exchanges like Binance and Kucoin has also been exploited at one point or another.
The early 2024 exploit of the Quopi AI platform started a chain reaction that has eventually led us to this refund program, as soon as the exploit happened and we realized the extent of the damage, rather than wasting time trying to salvage the platform and it’s data, we immediately swung into action and focused fully on recovery efforts which is aimed solely at recovering the funds that were stolen from the platform during the exploit because we know without a shred of doubt that making our members whole again is greater than keeping the platform in our full possession. Thanks to the swift efforts of law enforcement and some amazing on-chain analytics tool, we were able to track the movement of the funds in realtime and eventually were able to trace the funds to the identity of an individual when they tried to cashout a little of the funds to their local currency, thanks to our exchange partner for helping identify this individual from the KYC they did in the exchange.
We are just beginning to understand the extent of the damage done to our community by this incident, the loss of trust during our silence in the recovery period and even some lawsuits that are being prepared against us, we want to assure our beloved community that these measures are not never because we are willing to do whatever it takes to make things right and gain back your trust, we would be commencing this process with the refund program.
The Next Steps
The past few weeks has been exhilarating and stressful for the entire Quopi team, we managed to do the impossible by recovering funds stolen by an unethical hacker, but it has also been filled with a flurry of activity as we build and deploy the tools that would be required for the correct disbursement of the recovered funds especially when we discovered that the data recovered from our servers was sold on the black market, which is why we have taken proactive steps to discard every account or website that might have been compromised during the exploit.
We have also ensured that we completely take out the likelihood of human error during the whole refund process, this is why every aspect of the refund program is handled by AI, this includes the document verification module and the refund disbursal process, we have also included multiple failsafe that ensures that when any suspicious activity is detected in the platform, it would be repelled immediately. These steps has been put in place to ensure that the refund process cannot be hijacked by bad actors who might take advantage of their possession of user data to try to use those data to claim refunds on behalf of real users. The whole process is fully automated.
The Refund Process
The exact steps required for a successful refunds claim is outlined below:
Register in Refund Portal (Kindly ensure you signup using your registered Quopi email address).
Navigate to the Verification page and complete the KYC (Passing this KYC qualifies you for the refund and would automatically trigger the fund migration process, you are required to accurately fill all the required boxes in the verification page).
Add your preferred withdrawal address. (Supported cryptocurrencies for the refund program would be listed in the settings page)
If your KYC request is approved, you would get an automated email asking you to make a security deposit of Thirty percent(30%) of your total recovery funds and also listing the exact amount required to trigger the account activation to enable you make withdrawals, this is an effective anti-fraud system that ensures that only real users completes this step, it also serves as a deterrent for the exploiters as their deposit would be withheld by the system if our anti-fraud system is triggered. (Accounts flagged by our anti-fraud system would be further reviewed by the team and additional information might be required to enable us determine if it’s a genuine refund request).
As soon as the system automatically detects your deposit, your account would be activated for withdrawal and your previously migrated balance plus your 30% deposit would be available for withdrawal immediately. Kindly note that it takes about 45 mins for withdrawal requests to be automatically approved and disbursed to your chosen wallet.
Projections For The Future Of Quopi
We are aware of the lawsuits and legal actions being prepared against us and we know that this means that we cannot relaunch the platform until we have addressed the issue of user funds being stuck in the platform, this refund program is designed to settle this very issue and the future of Quopi would depend on the success of this program.
