Artificial Intelligence

Will artificial intelligence lead to massive unemployment?

Although it is undeniable that Artificial intelligence will lead to unemployment in some jobs, I believe it will be considered structural unemployment. This is different than a mass unemployment as only certain job fields will be affected. As Martin Ford points out, “Historically, technology has tended to impact one employment sector at a time”. As a result, this will allow for the economy to restructure and create new jobs within a new filed of information technology.
Companies such as Amazon have been using technology such as Artificial Intelligence on their warehouse floors for many years. This has allowed them to be more efficient with shipments while increasing production and revenue. Robin Hanson does point out that artificial intelligence is not nearly sophisticated enough to lead to mass unemployment however this could change over the next century. In conclusion I think its safe to assume that artificial intelligence will not be creating a mass unemployment anytime soon and people will be able to continue work as new jobs emerge in an ever changing economy.
