I will just write my 2 cents, which is probably not worth much more :)

I thought depression to be mostly organic, well rather mostly affecting organic life, perhaps the cause can also be environmental, but I thought it had a lot to do with serotonin.
Given this I would consider it highly unlikely that a machine would be depressed.

Anyway just my 2 cents on the subject, but an interesting topic.
