The Beginning of Our End? Artificial Intelligence Determining Who Lives and Who Dies

in #ai6 years ago (edited)

Man can't do anything with perfection so how can we develop "learning algorithms" that decide who is and who isn't an enemy combatant. Terminator machines I think are the beginning of the end for mankind. I'm familiar with robot production and there really are robots that make other robots today just like in the terminator movies. Robots are flawed just like the humans that create them. So let's build robust nearly indestructible machines that kill people. Killing a human being is a moral decision that should not be left to a bloody algorithm. Pun intended.

There are a plethora of ethical issues with armed drones and robotics. The often overlooked issue is that there is no individual threat to human life in the cockpit of an UAV. This gives the operator a surreal view on life and death without any fear of impending mortality. Without it, there is less consciousness of taking life. I found you through the #payitforward contest. You were featured by @ecid. Congratulations and best wishes.

isnt that also how the VA decides who lives and who dies? the so called death lists or socialized healthcare, where only those who the algorithm deems profitable to allow to live or get a life saving surgery shall live?

IBM's watson was used during the holocaust to more efficiently decide who lives and who dies

the drones are especially disturbing since it has a 10 percent or less accuracy rate

how in the hell that has been allowed to continue for so long, i do not know.

Maybe this is why the suicide rates are so high for veterans and active duty?

the morality question. war has become in many ways, a video game for many. at what point will "they" decide that humans are no longer needed at all?

It is indeed a concern. Too many young arrogant people involved in AI. "Fools rush in where wise men fear to tread" comes to mind. In my experience, I'v never observed where arrogance and wisdom can occupy the same mind at the same time.

I think my greatest concern would be that if A.I ever advances to "self awareness". It already has fallen into the wrong hands.

Sophia - http://www.hansonrobotics.com/robot/sophia/ - Is an example of self awareness.

"It has already fallen into the wrong hands"
I've never heard it said better than that!!
