AI will soon be able to convert any Black and White movie to Color!
Film colorization has existed for about a decade, but the process is slow and expensive. The only times a movie gets converted into color using the film-industry method is when they think there will be a large enough market to justify the huge investment of converting it.
As with many other things, advances in artificial intelligence stand to change this completely. A recent AI using generative adversarial networks has learned to convert monochromatic images into vibrant color all on it's own, and the results are very impressive.
There is still some bottleneck of processing, since a picture is simply 1 frame of the movie, and the framerate of an hour long film can quickly stack the number of images in need of conversion into the hundreds of thousands, but we all know that computation speed is constantly accelerating, so it won't be long until this kind of technology is implemented into services such as YouTube or Netflix, at which point you could simply click a checkbox option to view anything in color!

Really excited to see news of AI. Apart from turning black-and-white to colored images, there are also other machine learning techniques for automatically generating subtitles, turning blurred images to clear ones, real time translation and so on. There is still so much to explore in AI tech!

technology is picking up speed , kool stuff, but i agree with jassennessaj about good intentions.
Even artificial intelligence can make a true human thinking person. Technology conquers everything. Hoping and Praying it will be done with a good intention.
EXCITING!!! I would love to see some akira kurosawa films in colour. I wonder though, in doing would some of the classic black and white films retain their charm and beauty... =]
I cant argue that, totally agree 👍 come to think of the power ⛮ and abilities that have been given to them! I believe sooner ai robots will be much more smarter than us humans! I jst support we empowering them to the point where they cause humanity destruction!
I trust for fans of the B&W noir films this AI tech will leave the original copy intact...perhaps repair faults caused by time's penchant for corruption
I'm all for technology improving the human condition but for some folks...some things...are more appreciated in original form
