What Can Hyperscaling Bring Africa

in #africa6 years ago

The digital era we live in has had a hand in reshaping the entire world, thanks to software defined data centres and the growth of mobile technology. Companies are migrating workloads aginto clouds to fight infrastructure issues and the ever growing tech costs. As companies move towards the connected future the Hyperscaling data center has risen to the occasion. Cisco estimates that hyperscale data centers will hold 53% of all active data center servers by 2021.

The future of big data

Hyperscalers are taking over because they have invested heavily into their capabilities in software, machine learning, and automation. These companies seek to provide solid capabilities for their clients that help remove the need for alot of peripheral gear. Companies that use Hyperscaling technology often outperform their competition in computing and server speed. with over 300 hyperscaling datacenters operational the sector is growing to address the needs of a enormous clientle base.

Hyperscaler tech won't be easy to implement.

Although implementing Hyperscaling data centers in Africa will be quite an exensive undertaking, it is a necessary one. Here in Ghana the cellphone saturation is at 100% that means in the near future all of these 35 million people will need faster data services as out internet infrastructure ages. Implementing hyperscaler technology will allow Ghanian firms to compete and provide service comparable to their international counterparts.

The funding for such projects will likely have to come from private investments as I do not believe the Ghanian government has the techncal expertise nor the organizational capacity to make it happen. Looking at thier track record of unfinished initiatives, it is more desireable to choose a private method. This may not be the case in all African nations but it is a problem for most. The billions of dollars that it would cost to make this happen need to be strictly scrutinized so that the people dont suffer from another dishonest politician/businessman stealing all the project funds and not completing the job.

Africa can benefit greatly

Aside from increasing the efficience of our internet services in Africa Hyperscaler tech would also help vreate jobs and ensure the growth of the technology sector. It is believed that africa must go through an industrial revoloution befor it can have a technological one, but I say why not have both at the same time? We need to begin manufactuing the technology that is created from our precious minerals them imported back to us as high priced gadgets and services. This is where the materials to make EVERYTHING comes from so te need to stop selling our future and start building on it, making it more valuable through refinement and manufacturing. These neccessary measures can be greatly benefited from using hyperscaler technology to connect our government agencies, businesses and people.

The internet is still in its infancy in Africa but as time goes on it will grow into an intrinsic part of how we live. We must educate each other and work to bring knowledge and modernization to our fellow africans. Growing our peoples knowledge and abilities is the only way to stop the cycles of exploitation.

It has a lot to offer Africa. Thanks for sharing @masterroshi. Gotta read more about it though
