Too darn hot
Cole Porter got it wrong. It's too [expletive deleted and another expletive deleted] hot.
For those who don't live in South Africa's Gauteng province, here's a little solar system geography lesson to help you understand why we denizens of this province are melting.
Here's the temperature this evening.
There are only a couple of things wrong with this data.
- It's wrong.
- It's [expletive deleted] wrong.
The current temperature and precipitation data are misleading. The temperature is (still) at least 5 degrees C hotter than this info purports, and I'll show you thunderstorms....
That's not a thunderstorm's dewlap. It's a wannabe cloud in the distance. It couldn't make a puddle if its life depended on it.
If we get any rain, I'll be the proverbial monkey's uncle. Which would be gender-challenging, to say the least.
The little problem this causes
Some of us have a narrow temperature range in which we can inhabit this Earth.
Lower limit
This Canadian is well-known for being the very first person each April in South Africa to huddle under a blanket, desperate for warmth, while everyone else is sleeveless and in shorts. That takes care of the lower limit.
Upper limit
This week I've found the upper limit.
Or I might just melt.
We have to cool down her core temperature
Scotty always knew best how to handle that warp core, not to mention those dilithium crystals.
Only one cure
Throw her in!
My gratitude for today: a sparkling, deliciously cool pool which succeeded in bringing my core temperature down from Ebola fever levels.

Jeez this weather has been hectic .... and along with my menopause and hot flashes it is killing me. Cooling down bit now, but see there are many floods in Mpumalanga.
Oh my gosh, Anneke, I feel for you. I went through something similar about 5 summers ago and almost ran to the doctor growling "Gimme the drugs!" Unless a person had gone through menopause, they can have no idea how awful those hot flashes are. It's cooled down a bit here now - I wish you cooler and kinder hormones 😘

Heat has been unbelievable, you lucky you have a pool, getting to the ocean at this time of year is a no go.

Hi, @joanstewart, you have no idea how privileged I feel to have a built-in pool. For someone from Montreal that's an extreme luxury - if we had pools they were usually those above ground jobs which had to be packed up for winter (drain pool, wipe and fold liner, roll steel outer wall, store in garage). This is simply awesome for little old me.
I guess the holiday-makers do make it challenging to get to the beach this time of year. Hope you get the occasional dip despite the throngs.

We had one of those above ground for the children, eventually gave up on it when they grew up, the beach is down the road.
Very seldom swim in the sea, enjoy walking and splashing up the river, although nothing is as clean as it used to be either.
