Sexually transmitted diseases are quite common to us with many options of how to tackle it but sexually transmitted power is still alien to man. However, not anymore as recently it was evident in Zimbabwe that sexually transmitted power (S.T.P) was imminent since the former dictator of Zimbabwe Robert Mugabe who ruled the country for 37 years has perfected plans to hand over the countries leadership to his beautiful wife Grace Mugabe.

Interestingly, Martin Plaut, in his report captioned "Zimbabwe: “Power is not sexually transmitted” submitted that...

The key warning had come three years ago, when the war veterans against white rule that put Mugabe in power told the 93-year-old president that they would not accept his second wife as the leader of the country. “Power is not sexually transmitted,” said Jabulani Sibanda, who complained that the ruling party was “plotting a bedroom coup”. The war veterans, who had stood by President Mugabe during all the crises and challenges he had faced, were not prepared to see Grace and her acolytes to take control.

In the same report Martin surmised that

Since her marriage to the president in 1996, the First Lady of Zimbabwe has become legendary for her ostentatious living. While her countrymen and women live on the breadline, “Gucci Grace”, or “the first shopper” as she is known, indulged her lavish lifestyle. The Mugabe family accumulated a substantial property portfolio both inside Zimbabwe and abroad. Notorious for her vicious temper, Grace was only recently smuggled out of South Africa after escaping an assault charge for hitting a model. Zimbabweans complained, but it was when Grace began to seek political office that she crossed a line. She began to be hailed as party rallies as the “Mother of the Nation”. Grace surrounded herself with her acolytes: Generation 40, or G40, faction which included the ZANU PF youth wing. She began pushing her husband to nominate her his successor. This brought her up against the old guard, who coalesced around the vice president, Emmerson Mnangagwa.

After Mnangagwa known as the Crocodile was sacked, he fled to South Africa through Mozambique which was the last straw that broke the camels back leading to the Military take over and subsequent forcing of Mugabe to tender his resignation or face impeachment. More so, his party ZANU-PF, had expelled his wife Grace and many of his kitchen cabinet from the party while removing Mugabe as the parties long time leader.

It should be noted that Mnangagwa had been with Mugabe since the days of the war against white majority rule and he has been a long time ally and supporter of Mugabe who was said to be responsible for the rigging of elections in favor of Mugabe and suppression of the Ndebele and held key positions in Mugabes government.

No thanks to Grace Mugabe, the country is liberated from the iron grip on power by the Mugabe family and now the rest of the world joins Zimbabweans to rejoice  while we hope that the new leadership headed by the sacked former vice president Mnangagwa will ensure that the country is lead in the right direction so as to attract much needed foreign direct investment and genuine democracy. I hope that the power is finally back to the people.!

Conclusion: This is a lesson to other African leaders who hold onto power till the last minute while their country burns. Nothing last forever. African leaders and leaders of most other countries should learn a lesson that nothing last forever. Power is not an inheritance but comes from the people.  Instead of holding onto power leading to oppression and bad government, African leaders should remember what Obama said that "Africa does not need strong men, but strong institutions". Let them strive to build strong institutions while in office and hand over to capable youths to push the nation forward and retain their names in good books of history and stop this selfish ways of starting well and ending badly which is common among African leaders.

Only if our African leaders can stop being selfish and power hungry, then they would rule with their heart and think wisely for the people. Nevertheless, we the youths can think for ourselves and join forces to inject ourselves into politics. Who says only the old can rule. I mean, even a king is aware that one day he will die and be succeeded. Sadly, the youths no longer believe in the future of our countries, so they move along with the trend of corruption and dishonesty. The time has come for the youth to believe in the country that they once loved and device strategies to affect their immediate community. This way they build their portfolio. We still should not stop praying that God unseats the enemies of our continent, especially those who call themselves our leaders.

i cannot agree more @abimbolakuti
the youth has a big role to play to shun tokens and look at the bigger picture... more so, women should also brace up and ensure they play a vital role in their destinies along with civil society...enough of African leaders who overstay their welcome in power...Africa needs genuine change from the youths...thanks for this wonderful comment...upped...

You are welcome. Just not happy with the situation in Africa.

no one should be happy my dear. Africa is really caged by wicked old men who rape their peoples destiny and push them away to seek greener pastures in other countries. Imagine news going round of African men sold in auction as slaves in Libya while their leaders enjoy their loot in their palaces. God will surely save Africa from the hands of the wicked.

thanks for the comment
