EMPOWERING AFRICANS
I write as an african
INTRODUCTION
I can’t tell for the world at large, but I can tell for Africa, the unemployment rate increases exponentially as the years go by. The depth of poverty escorts it. Did the Government fail us?? I would say no, as much as we like to attribute most of these faults to the government, a lot of it is due us. Now that is not to say the government is performing at its optimum.
Unemployment plagues 89% of the countries I know; the degree differ, the reaction of the authorities differ, but it is there.
The Gold in the dirt
Africa, in my opinion, with a lot of underdeveloped and developing countries is fertile land , a pool of opportunities for the teeming population to thrive. Unlike in most developed countries where many processes are automated, many problems that we face here are already fixed, hence less opportunities to create value there. Here, it’s all staring us in the face
The Obstacles
One would wonder why these so-called opportunities have not been harnessed, rather than the majority wallowing in abject poverty. I see two reasons for that, the first being our mindset, the second being ignorance
Mindset Barrier
The average African mindset is carved from experiences and knowledge of many generations ago, being passed down in all manners. Thus limiting the average African’s creativity and productivity, we always believe there are certain ways certain things ought to be, this massively destroys creativity. Whenever a person tend to think or act out of the box, he is considered unruly/rebellious
Ignorance Barrier
The ignorance issue is similar to the mindset one, Even the bible says “my people perish for lack of knowledge”. Without adequate information, no matter how creative or genius a person is, his/her accomplishment will be limited. “you cannot give what you don’t have” – unknown.
I think if individual Africans are furnished with sufficient and relevant information, both within and out of the schooling system, and the mindset barrier is broken (which will be a derivative of information/education as well) Africa would rise to the top. We possess such energy, ambition, drive, love, and believe second to none.
THE CLARION CALL
This therefore is a call to all and sundry, both Africans and non-africans to provide valuable information, tutorials, mind developing contests, and the like for the African community, starting from this platform, then infecting the entire continent.
With this atop my mind, I have decided to start making at least a post a week, educating the Africans on this platform, arming them with relevant information that could act as a catalyst for personal and general development.
To the rest of the world, we love you too, but we have to arrange our home first, eventually we would make this world a much better place for us all, when we get it right
Great post. African people should stop with trying the "trust the government" way of life it just does not work there. Africa could be the first place to have a functioning anarchy, if the people would remove the governments.
Honestly, it could, but the fear of the unknown, the fear or derailing from "how it has always been" hinder us. thanks for your time mate
I agree that most africans kind of accept status quo, you value tradition and habbits kind of more then western or Asian, you have some strange traditions and some good ones. your Clarion call is really a good idea, but how can I wake up people? I have been talking to many Kenyans about Steemit, I don't get them, why are they not catching fish, Youth are techsavvy, but most dont really see the internet as a good source of income, farming in most african countries is also really underdeveloped.
