In Pictures: Guided Ghana Business Mission
I recently returned from a Guided Business Mission to Accra, where we hosted a group of first-time investors from the UK and United States seeking business opportunities in Ghana.
The trip was hailed a major success by the delegation who were treated to scheduled meetings and informal gatherings with major stakeholders in government and the private sector.
The seven-day mission offered the group a credible, accelerated route in to agri-production and processing, real estate and tech start-up investment opportunities, whilst providing valuable rare insights in to their bespoke business interests including aviation and micro finance.
One investor said: ’My objective going on this mission was to get just one or two contacts to follow up, but I got so much more than that. We met with top Ministers and a few successful business people who had moved from the UK and US to Ghana, so we got to hear both sides of the investment story.’
Another added: ‘Even after a couple of days we had seen value in the trip and the relationships we built were lucrative and genuine.’
A highlight of the mission included the formation of partnership opportunities formed within a matter of days, prepared through government offices and one-on-one meetings with established business owners.
My Africa advisor Prince Wahab Wadey, who co-organised the mission with me, said: ‘Ghana is one of the most peaceful countries in the world, and if you’re doing business here it also gives you a gateway to other ECOWAS countries, which is a big opportunity. Partnerships with those of us on the ground puts you ahead of your competitors, as we know the needs of the country’s people and how local business works.’
My business, AB2020 hosted the mission in conjunction with Dr Harnet Bokrezion, founder of Africa Business Jumpstart. Read Harnet’s overview of the mission here, and watch her short video report on a farm the group visited in Ghana below.
