Away from keyboard #13. 15 degrees for 12 hours? Easily! Works on the both directions ;)
The weather in Stavropol is being very changeable. Always has been. One day you might walk in the T-shirt, next day you are risking to catch a cold if you're out without a warm jacket. Let me illustrate it for you ;)
Day 1. When i'm having a nice walk along the Karl Marx Avenue
(hello from our communist past ;D)
This walk has began in the center of the city (the Alexander Square):
Despite the fact that people are warmly dressed, it's +9 degrees Celsius outside. Here is the proof:
But it's still not the reason to take off your coats because yesterday there was a frost and who knows what will happened next minute? :p
The Tiflis Gates (on the picture) are located on Karl Marx Avenue near the Circus on General Yermolov Square. Their construction began in 1841 by a merchant Tamamshev.
The arch was built in honor of the upcoming 30th anniversary of the our victory in the French invasion of Russia, known in Russia as the Patriotic War of 1812. According to historical reports, the arch was made in classical style, finished with bright plaster, the double-sided icon of Christ the Savior was crowned the central portal.
Among other things, the Tiflis gates served as the eastern city gates, through which crews departed towards Georgievsk, then to Vladikavkaz and Transcaucasia. That's what the beginning of this road looks like now.
Unfortunately, in the 30s of the twentieth century the arch was destroyed. This information is placed on the Tiflis gates.
Thanks to the efforts and initiative of local residents in 1998, the gates were restored to their original location. When they were designed, old drawings were used, so that the monument retained its original historical appearance.
Some more pictures of the Karl Marx Avenue:
Monument to Yermolov. He looks as the confident, courageous and ruthless to the enemies commander.
And a picture of the Lenin Square a bit later. Here you can see that the temperature has already risen to 11 degrees but clouds begin to cover the sky.
Day 2. When i'm having a really quick run to the shop and back home...
...because there is no way i wanna have a long walk when it's -4, snowy and windy :D
Guess what weather did we have next day? I'll give a tip - it was time to enjoy walking again ^_^
very interesting to see about the city and experience
Ik ben blij dat je het leuk vond, leeuw :)
i hope it means 'I'm glad that you liked it' ^_^ :D
