Hello Steemians!
Today I want to share with you what i can see and learn at the International Air and Space Show.

The Patrouille de France

Virtual Reality :

I began the visit with a test of virtual reality. A receptionist of the group SGS gave me a an helmet composed by a smartphone and two lens. The principle is the following :

This system is really immersive and you can see the virtual environnement like you were there!
During this experience I can visit the site of SGS were they control airplane's pieces.
I can see they use two non destructives methods to detect micro-cracks in structures:

  1. use of eddy currents ( created by a variable magnetic field ) :

    A crack is going to divert the current create by the magnetic field and the operator is then going to notice the defect in the metallic structure.

  2. use of ultrasounds:

    Ultrasounds will be reflected by cracks.

The Air Show:

I assisted to the demonstration of flight several planes.
There was globally 3 types of demonstrations : Aerobatic flight, supersonic jet flight, helicopter and commercial planes.
I'll just present the more impressives flights.

  1. The Eurocopter EC665 Tigre :

    Very handy and versatile, it is a major part of the French army.

  2. The loudly one , the rafale.

    The impressive noise created by the rafale is due to the post combustion.
    Furthermore, I can see an interesting fact : the condensation above wings because of the depression:

  3. The Big one : Airbus A380:

    It was really impressive to see 400 tons flying in the airs! Such a plane needs a colossal power to fly, he use on average 4 liters of kerosene per second!

The futur of aeronautic:

I assisted to a conference presenting the futur of aeronautic.
We can think that there will be electric plane in the futur, but the reality is different. Today, no electric engine can compete with the power of the existing reactors. The electrification of planes just concern the others dispositifs as the system of defrosting or air-conditioning.
Furthermore, companies are working to reduce the weight of planes looking for more and more light composite materials.
To resume, the futur of aéronautique for the next decades will be especially of the improvement of existing technologies.
It will be necessary to wait to see appearing electric commercial planes.
