" What is internet anyway? " moment in time for the blockchain

in #advice7 years ago (edited)

The mainstream media is so far behind in its understanding of the blockchain. We are at that “What is internet anyway?” moment in time for cryptocurrency.

Think about that for a minute :)

In 1992, even though the “internet” had existed for quite some time, the media was begining to see visions of the future. So bizzare was the @ symbol at that time, it was like some form of mayan glyph to the anchors of NBC Today Show that day. (NBC didn’t even have thier own domain at that time.)

The BBC World Service seems to have a better grip on the reality of blockchain technology, but they appear to only know about Bitcoin.

There are so many other ways that this technology will change our lives much like the internet has since 1992. From the way will buy and sell goods, to how we will participate in our own nieghbourhood energy market. Unbanked people of Africa will now have a personal connection to the financial world devoid of political manipulation or traditional banking middle-men. Refugees in war torn areas of the planet can use thier LiteCoin wallet to protect thier finances while they escape the conflict.

The blockchain still has a long way to go before its simple and straightforward for the mass public to use. We may no longer slosh through usenets to find information, or use dialup to chat with friends on bulletin board systems or AOL, but it took that level of ease to open up the internet to everyone. This is happening now, but you are only seeing the ‘@’ symbol right now through the lens of your news source. Or more specifically, the Bitcoin symbol.
