LITTLESCRIBE: ADDICTED TO STEEM? WHAT DO I DO???
“Can you define what you may call a steemit addiction? When should one consider themselves addicted? What can be done about it?”
MODERATION IN ALL THINGS. EXCEPT FOR STEEM. NO SUCH THING AS TOO MUCH STEEM.
When should one consider themselves addicted to ANYTHING, really? The same principles apply across the board, whether it’s with gambling, cross-stitching, video games, work, sex, pornography, square dancing, alcohol, or examining one’s good looks in the mirror.
There is such a thing as too much.
Whether something is a true addiction or just a nasty habit, the result is the same--we neglect the things that really matter and become nasty ourselves. It comes down to a few simple things: hygiene, family/friends, mood, routine, and productivity.
If any of these start to fizzle out or drastically alter, for WHATEVER reason (addiction or not), this is the time to immediately make some adjustments. Another indicator you're doing too much of something or letting it "take over" is if you're feeling more irritable than usual, more critical of others, and annoyed with the universe--like you have a void you need to fill constantly and it will not be satisfied with the usual go-round.
When I started on this platform, I'll admit, I was a bit obsessed. It felt like some kind of a drug creating blog posts, commenting, voting, commenting some more, watching videos about Steem, reading the hard fork data updates, getting into all the debates about sock puppet accounts, voting for Witnesses….I got totally sucked in.
And I’m glad I did! It was a blast! It was another world. A whole new set of possibilities. New people. New ideas. New ways of thinking about economy and society. I felt like it was Christmas morning as a kid.
Sometimes I opened my present and was totally let down, and other times it was a complete high. But after awhile, I got my bearings, developed a routine, built some confidence, got to know some good bloggers, and nestled in with a rhythm of my own.
I was able to get some momentum on here because of my consistency--which I would not have had without a little bit of (shall I say healthy?) obsession.
I have a day job, I’m a mom of three, and a wife. I have had other obligations and projects that required my attention. I didn’t (and don’t) currently have the luxury of sitting at the computer all day and geeking out on Steem.
If you do, then own it! But either way, you need to be like the goat and bite off only what you can chew. If that’s an entire pair of pants, then so be it.
But just remember, if you have other obligations, like a job, a family, kids, or your HYGIENE, for instance, and these are falling off, then you need to check yourself before you wreck yourself.
Steem will still be here tomorrow.
We’ll all be here tomorrow, waiting to hear all the smart things you have to say and vote on your content and make you famously wealthy and popular.
If the basics in your life are slipping, you gotta hit the “reset” button. Set a schedule and stick to it, and fill your day with normal-people things, like eating meals, going outside to get some actual sun, and talking to real, live people face to face--fellow Steemians, even.
The fact is, we all like an escape. Steem can be that. And that’s not a bad thing. As with all things, though, it’s important to keep balance and master your inner chi. Best of luck to you! I think you’ve got a great blog going!

I am certainly glad that the importance of HYGIENE was noted. Often an undervalued item for Steem adicts.
Hey, who needs to shower, right?
Who indeed needs a shower, when you've locked yourself in a dark room with only the glow of your monitor. Not I.
On second thought...
Ha ha. I just saw this. Good one. I can smell you from over here. Go take a shower.
Thanks so much for answering the question in a beautiful way
Ever so welcome!
