What are the benefits of study abroad?

in #adveture6 years ago

The biggest reason why you should consider study abroad program is for the opportunity to see the world! By studying abroad, you will have the chance to experience new cultures, sharpen your language skills and broaden your horizon. I was blessed with an opportunity to spend a year in Federal Republic of Germany, thanks to an amazing program called The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals (CBYX).

Living in the foreign country will allow you to observe and experience culture in such a unique way that will not be possible otherwise. You will gain a better understanding and appreciation for the host nation’s people and history. You will have a front row seat to witness a completely new way of life which will change your view of the world forever! Another good reason to consider studying abroad is the freedom to fully immerse yourself in a new language. In the US, only one in four individuals can hold a conversation in a second language wherein EU more than half of people could speak at least two languages. This brings me to the next point: career opportunities.

As you gain life experiences and language skills in your host nation you are also becoming a valuable commodity for future employers. A recent survey conducted by the University of Hawai'i at Manoa and University of Memphis found “that almost 40% of companies surveyed missed international business opportunities because of a lack of internationally competent personnel.” When 95% of consumers live outside of the United States, we cannot afford to ignore this essential aspect of higher education.

There are many more benefits of study abroad such as making lifelong friends, personal development, life experience and much more! Only 1.6 percent of all U.S. students enrolled at institutions of higher education in the United States had taken the opportunity to study abroad. Don’t you wish to join this exclusive club?
