RE: Could the steem blockchain solve wikipedias problems?
Wikipedia allows commercial reuse of their text content, with attribution but without suggesting their endorsement (i.e. don't use an account name like @wikipedia for this), so anyone could start posting wiki articles here. And the proceeds would hopefully be donated back to Wikipedia. Edit: This would be bad for Steemit.com, because Google penalizes duplicate content in search result rankings.
Hosting all of Wikimedia's content on the blockchain, including images, would probably require a dedicated blockchain. Would that really be cheaper than a centralized website? I don't know.
As for @gavvet's post, I don't think paying contributors is what they need. Let's not try to improve a system that works remarkably well by changing the basic principles.
