Amazing Hike to Hanging Lake

in #adventure7 years ago

This past weekend for the 4th of July we decided to go to Hanging Lake in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. This was actually the best hike that we have ever been on! I would love to share some of it with the Steemit Community so if anyone is ever in the area, they know where to go.

In order to enjoy this incredible hike you have to get to the trail really early. I would recommend no later than 6am to be safe because the parking lot only holds around 20 cars at a time. We arrived at 5:50am and we were the 7th car in the parking lot so we were ready to hit the trails with not many people around. We started up pretty steep hills on a pretty steep climb but you quickly come to some amazing mini waterfalls that are coming down from the main set of waterfalls that we are hiking to for our final destination.

Shortly after severall small waterfalls we came to a clearing where we could see far out through the mountain valley. This was such an amazing view this early in the morning. We stopped and had a snack while taking in this scenery.

At this time some hikers were coming down the mountain and told us that we weren't very far away from the top and that the views are incredible. My two daughters immediately jumped up and told my wife and I that we'd better keep going. Towards the top of this hike there is a railing because it gets very steep but at no time did we feel in danger, the railing is just a precaution. Another minute and we were greeted with one of the most breathtaking views that you'll ever see. The water was so blue with two identical waterfalls flowing down. It made us wonder what the first people who discovered this place were thinking because it's really nothing like you've ever seen before.

Just as we thought this site could not get any more impressive, some hikers told us that you could hike BEHIND the water fall. This was just an extra two minute hike and it was something that we will never forget. To be able to stand behind a waterfall this large was insane.

Needless to say that this trip was well worth the fifteen minute drive from our hotel in Glenwood Springs. It's not every day that two young girls say that getting up at 5am to go on a two hour and thirty minute hike was well worth their time. On the way down we saw more waterfalls and an amazing site as the sun came up over the mountains.

If you are ever near Glenwood Springs, Colorado I highly suggest that you take the time to stop by Exit 125 and check these amazing views out for yourself!

This looks amazing!
I used to attend a special school for hiking back in Romania (I should write an article about that :D)
Hope to see more of this posts from you!

That would be really awesome. You should write an article about that, I know a lot of us would love to read it.
