Oakley Kansas | Buffalo Bill Museum

in #adventure6 years ago

Kansas is quite an adventure on it's own. There are miles of fields, and hardly any towns. We are currently on our second day of driving in a straight line. Highway 70 runs East to West, and we are traveling West. There are plenty of things to do on the west coast and plenty of people to see. One stop is going to be in Las Vegas to spend some time with @steemcafe and @larrymorrison.

The scenery changes very little here. It is slight hills that go gradually up and then gradually down...then repeat. I am sure there are more things to do here in Kansas than we have done, and we may even come back through one day.

We were lucky enough to get a chance to stop and see a castle lastnight. It was a memorial for a spanish explorer named Coronado. The setting was breath taking with 360° views. Today we stopped at the Buffalo Bill museum in Oakley Kansas.

It is a very nice building between two fields. There are large statues in the front (the picture above), and beautiful landscaping.

Inside it was filled with the most amazing energy. Some locals were sitting and piecing together a puzzle, while others were drinking coffee and snacking on some cookies.

There was a very...very comfortable couch that wrapped through a large room filled with historical displays. We saw a stuffed buffalo and hides, and even watched a video about a town that has disappeared through history.

The gift shop was stuffed full of some of the finest local wood work and novelties. We are now the proud owners of some beautiful arrowheads.

The experience was a great one. For what we saw, we really enjoyed the whole thing....and it got better. As we were leaving, Stacie D (@freedomtowrite) and I were chatting about dinner. It was the usually conversation about when, where, and what. That's when she batted her beautiful eyes and asked me if I would ask if we could wash some dishes there. This would normally be super weird, except the energy and set up were perfect. There was a full sized commercial kitchen right on the side of the building.

Since we are on the road, we make due with what we have. We are simple homesteaders and have no problem doing dishes in a bowl in a parking lot.

Sure enough we were able to do our dishes inside. Between us having few dishes and the sinks being so amazing, it only took about five minutes.

I would encourage anyone passing through Kansas to give this place a visit!

I would also encourage everyone to never be too nervous to ask an ackward question! It typically works out well!
