Snow Adventure [Part 2]

in #adventure8 years ago

Hello Steemians! Last week I wrote about going on a day long snow adventure with some friends. The primary goal was to get some great pictures! On the first part, we went to the Mouth of the Brule River, which was cut short by bad conditions, and then we ended up in the Amnicon Falls State Park where I cut the post short just as we entered.

Snow Adventure Part 2

As we crossed the bridge, I was giving my friends a run down on some of the things I've learned so far about photography. One of my points was that sometimes you gotta get dirty to get the shot you want, or get in a weird position just to get a certain angle. Just as I said this, I went to the corner of the bridge and snapped this shot:

And as you can see in the shot, my buddy captured me taking it!

I was happy with the results! So now I have a picture of myself performing photography! A great pic of me in the middle of taking a picture! #photographygoals

I mentioned in my previous post that we were able to capture snow falling off the trees as the wind blew. This created a lot of amazing shots, and that is the focus of this part of my snow adventure. I've seen this before, but I have never been able to capture these moments in a picture. I was blown away by the results and I hope you are too!

I was busy trying to take a picture like this one:

When suddenly the wind blew, and I was able to get this:

I'm not sure what I like more, being able to see the sun shining through really makes for an amazing shot. Being able to capture this was very rewarding! I remember laughing out loud because I was excited about it.

Just when I thought it was over, it got really thick! I couldn't believe how much snow was sitting on the trees, and how just a little bit of wind created such an effect!

After this we moved on to look for more pictures to take. Okay, I was looking for more pictures to take. Certainly hoping that I would motivate them by capturing some nice pictures and showing them the results on the LCD display of my Nikon, I was able to.

When we got to the shoreline of the river, it was frozen over and we could see a trail going down it. Since we didn't have snowshoes we decided not to embark on that journey. A wise choice, so it was back to the trees.

@honeybadger-1 also spotted a design on the side of a cliff that resembled a volcano and I took a nice picture of the trees.

Then I let @honeybadger-1 use my camera and he was able to capture a really nice picture of the tree tops from underneath. It's actually the effect I was looking for when I took my picture, but I could say that he's got quite the photographers eye and I plan on letting him use my camera so he can share with you as well! I went ahead and made his two good shots into a gif because it looks awesome the way the trees sway in the wind. It doesn't even look real! Really cool watching them dance. It reminds me of the dancing palm trees in Super Mario Brothers 3.

Once we were done watching the trees sway in the wind, it was back to the snow dropping off the trees. Every few minutes was a surprise much like this one:

The Flower effect that this gave me is absolutely amazing! I was really happy with this. It reminds me of a sunflower, or a childs doodle of the sun complete with sun rays. There are so many thoughts that come to mind when I see something like this. Beauty frozen in time. Captured at the precise moment. It's a shot that you can mimic but never exactly replicate. It also reminds me how awesome photography is, and how timing is everything. There have been a few times where I see a perfect picture, but by the time I pull my camera out to take it, that moment is gone. Forever lost in the past, never to be seen by anyone else, it becomes a distant memory.

After we captured the shots of the snow falling due to the wind blowing, @honeybadger-1 figured we could get better effects if one of us would stand at the base of a really covered pine tree and shake the snow off, but I'm going to leave that for part 3!

Thank you for taking the time to read and I hope you enjoyed! The best part about this was getting out there and making it happen, however; I really enjoyed putting it together for you. I've never really made gif images before, so it was fun being able to create them with pictures that I took.

The adventure is far from over, and as long as Winter is around I will continue to go on more snow hikes to share with the Steemit community!

Stay tuned for Part 3! The best is yet to come!

When I joined Steemit I made the decision to always Power-Up my earnings. For now, payouts are set to 50/50 but you bet I will convert & Power Up! Besides internal transfers, I have never cashed out and don't plan on it! Steem On!

Beautiful hike! I find that those kinds of hikes are so calming. Love to be outside!

It was extremely calming indeed! All we heard was the wind blowing through the leaves. Very quiet!
