Future of Data Center Design

in #adsactly7 years ago (edited)

Hey Guys this is Ayush , sorry couldn't keep up this week , cause of my software projects lined up
Today I just wanna tell how things be in the Data World if the two European firms who are planning to do the same , and get things their way

Servers that swim in oil in an aluminum box could be the future data center design. That is the EI Reg vision advanced by two European companies during the OpenStack Summit in Sydney.

Use of organic dielectric oil

Horizon Computing is one of these companies. This firm has established the RuggedPOD, a 70cm x 70cm x 70cm box that can house four micro ATX motherboards or 8 mini ITX boards. All of them swim in natural dielectric oil. Though this oil cannot conduct electricity, it cannot conduct heat. That means components can work in it in a solid state even when wet.

In the heat-sink-like designs of the exterior of the POD, convection alone can keep servers at an ideal temperature. Additionally, the POD is adequately tough to work outdoors. This helps with cooling. There are two connections of the POD to the outside world. One is for power, and the other one is for network connection.

No need for a fixed infrastructure

Enter Cloud Suite is the second company. This is the public cloud provider based in Italy. The company is beta-testing PODs with the idea that they make sense as the place for running workloads that do not need a fixed infrastructure.

According to this company, containers do not need more than something that runs Kubernetes. If this is a passively-cooled server within a field, and latency and price are right, there is no reason not to go this way.

According to the representatives of ECS at the OpenStack Summit in Sydney, one can imagine a future where data centers will be made of passively-cooled servers PODs that reside in buildings that don’t have ventilation, air conditioning, and heating. Or windows to enhance airflow.

Not a far-fetched idea

This is not an entirely far-fetched idea. That’s because electrical infrastructures like transformers’ innards bathe in dielectric oils. As an OpenStack shop, ECS thinks that stack and Kubernetes can orchestrate placements of workload across several PODs. What’s more, solid-state disks will eventually surpass the capacity of their conventional cousins and PODs might even start providing handy storage amounts.

We think that this idea might fall on the density. ECS notes that PODs might handle kit kilowatt. This is not a lot in a cube of 70cm. However, one good thing about oil-immersed servers is that they could make new On-Call stories.

Cloud computing, containerization, and other technologies are rapidly changing the technology landscape. To help keep abreast with these changes - we are constantly working on building a huge library of courses that teach these concepts. Knowledge and experience about these cutting-edge concepts will be the key difference between rising to the top OR getting left behind.

The constant advance of tech and innovation is always so fascinating. The future of PODs being entirely enclosed or even underground is an interesting one, I'd imagine they would be more protected in the event of natural disaster as well.

True and more interesting to see when they use organic products for maintainance

Wow we live in a science fiction world now haha. Nice post gave it some love oil :)
