Crypto and Blockchain News | Adrealm

Dear Adrealm Community,

Bearing the bear market, Adrealm’s captain holds tight the tiller, all hands slackening the sheets during the crypto tempest. From the foredeck, the bosun produces her copy of Anthology of Spoon River and reads Edgar Lee Masters to the tars:

And now I know that we must lift the sail
And catch the winds of destiny
Wherever they drive the boat.

Should Dovey Wan in her article for Coindesk have used Edgar Lee Masters rather than Shakespeare for her analogy?
Maybe, but the message it’s similar: there’s always an end, but it’s up to us how bad it will be.

World-Wide Hot Spots

ON INSTITUTIONS, CRYPTO, AND BLOCKCHAIN

Federal Court in favour of ICO and against SEC

Blockvest was accused by the SEC of a securities-offering, but according to the US Federal Court, such allegations cannot be made only on the distribution method of the asset.
Following such ruling, the case now constitutes a legal precedent. It may also lead to more cautious suits against crypto ICOs.

UCLA: First accredited Course on Blockchain Engineering

Financially supported by MouseBelt, the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) launched the first accredited Blockchain Engineering course. It will be led by Professor John D. Villasenor, a professor of management, electrical and electronics engineering, and public policy. It’s not the first of its kind, though: the University of Tokyo made a similar announcement earlier last month thanks to the financial aid of the Ethereum Foundation.

ON CRYPTOS & BLOCKCHAIN COMPANIES

Crypto Shakespeare “ Violent Delights lead to Violent Ends”

An encouraging article by Dovey Wan, a founding partner of Primitive Ventures, a global venture investment firm with a focus on blockchain.

As the fanatic hype over crypto inflated market prices (“Bitconneeeeeeeect”), investors and developers started to dis-connect, leading to an “information asymmetry” in regard to the development of blockchain and crypto and ending up with the current bear market.

And according to Ms Wan, it is now the right time to re-connect the two parts and witness the real development of valuable projects:

In the near term, market conditions will be brutal, but that is actually helping nurture real value that is simply not reflected in the prices yet.

Should the words of competent developers go unheeded?
We don’t believe so.

And we think that Leonardo di Caprio would fit perfectly in a movie on cryptos. Combine his performance in “Romeo and Juliet” and “The Wolf of Wall Street” and what do you get? A suicidal crypto fanatic.

Love and death, Shakespeare and Cryptos.

“Blockchain Developer” one of the top emerging careers

LinkedIn, the platform for professionals, recently disclosed that following the crypto craze the listings for blockchain developers have gained the first place among the top 5 emerging jobs on the platform.

The top required skills are Solidity, Ethereum, Cryptocurrency Development, Node.js.

The trend collides — but only partially — with the abyssal decline of cryptocurrencies’ prices this year. The number of cryptocurrency purchaser hasn’t stopped increasing.

IoT and Blockchain

The Fourth Industrial Revolution is characterized by “The Big Four” — Internet of Things, Blockchain Technology, Artificial Intelligence, and Big Data — which are promising but hard-to-develop technologies.

The article states that blockchain technology can bridge the gap between IoT and Artificial Intelligence to provide more security on the Internet. This is much needed for the IoT, which has a very low success rate after implementation (around 26%).

Fried chicken can be bought in DASH in Venezuela

10 Church’s Chicken fast food stores in Venezuela are now accepting DASH.
Three clarifications:

Yes, KFC is still the church of chicken; but no, it’s not Church’s Chicken
No, you cannot pay in DASH at KFCs in Venezuela.
Yes, Venezuela is becoming the church of cryptos.

One question:
Do the three churches pay homage to the same Deity?

One answer:
Well, one of them has a white beard but wears red. And no, we hope they don’t share the same one.

Amen.

ON THE ADVERTISING INDUSTRY

The discourse on Advertising and Ethics

Alessandro De Zanche, audience and data strategy consultant, raise some questions on the “cynism” of the digital advertising industry and its passive acceptance of the inevitability of fraud schemes in the industry:

How morally proactive is the industry in preventing, detecting and denouncing illegal behaviour?

The author suggests the urgent need to enforce a morality-by-design approach to stop shredding ad fraud responsibility in small pieces shared among the industry’s stakeholders.

An appeal to our conscience?

Digital advertising fraud schemes: Our blind trust in the industry’s giants

The digital advertising industry is extremely lucrative — and dangerous. If it's an $88-worth billion market on one side, the fraud losses are predicted to be $10.9 billion by 2021 on the other side, which means that marketers are over-spending for invalid traffic.

And the industry’s giants are not exempt from it — verily, they’re rather part of it. Despite the U.S. antitrust enforcement, Google and Facebook — the industry’s leaders sharing 90% of the advertising growth in 2017 — haven’t been really affected by sanctions. And it’s not likely to happen any time soon since their control over data create some “entry barriers” for competitors to challenge their supremacy.

The 5th of November is behind us, but we don’t need to prepare any plot in order to say B for Blockchain every day of the year. Or, B for plan-B. Time will tell.

Alla prossima settimana!
